I had such an amazing experience working with Sara! Sara was my lactation consultant with my first baby. After working with her I knew I wanted her to be my doula when going for my vbac. I wanted to work with someone who had walked in my shoes and I loved that Sara was a vbac momma herself. I knew her calm and positive energy would be so nice to have at my birth and really help me feel comfortable and confident going into my birth. She was so supportive throughout my pregnancy, especially in those long final weeks when I was overdue. My vbac was long,  beautiful, and took many twists and turns. In addition to being a wealth of knowledge and support during my pregnancy, Sara provided amazing natural coping mechanisms for my birth environment including essential oil aromatherapy. During my labor, Sara was there every step of the way to help me process and work through contractions when things got tough.  She was always by my side with words of encouragement. I was grateful my husband had her support as well. He felt having her presence really put him at ease. My vbac was one of the most empowering experiences of my life.  I think a lot of what made it such a positive experience was being educated about the birth process, and having an incredible birth team who believes in you. I never felt alone in any of my decisions and if I had questions or concerns Sara was there to help me every step of the way. I am so grateful to have had Sara’s support during one of the most special days of my life!

Sara was always accessible for any questions I had throughout the entirety of my pregnancy (I hired her early!!)...I felt supported and gently guided and offered all kinds of resources to read through at each milestone I reached during pregnancy. If I was planning on a third baby I have no doubt I would hire Sara again!

My home birth with Sara as my doula was interesting to say the least LOL...I was in prodromal labor for days same as with my first birth and I genuinely couldn't tell if I was in labor...my midwives had done 3 sweeps and on the last check I was told YEP you're in active labor as I was 8 cm! My contractions were irregular and varying in intensity so all I can say is I was glad I requested a third sweep because if I hadn't I probably wouldve ended up birthing my daughter with just my husband there! The only thing I would change if I could would be to have been able to tell if I was in active labor so I could've had my support there sooner. I had incredible doula support and only wished I had more time with her...I have no doubt that choosing Sara as a doula helped me both during pregnancy and birth but also postpartum with her knowledge and support with breastfeeding. If a third baby is meant to be in our family I will 100% hire her again <3

We chose Sara at MyBirth to be our doula for the birth of our first child; I was nervous about pregnancy and extremely nervous about childbirth, especially being a type one diabetic, which I worried would add another element of stress to my birth plan and labor experience--having an extra support person seemed like the right path for the birth of our daughter from the start.

Having Sara as our doula created an empowering experience from the beginning; she encouraged us during pregnancy to attend a childbirth education class through MyBirth that wound up being really helpful (and explained her reasons behind wanting us to get this education ahead of time so well). She also kept in touch throughout the pregnancy with check-ins and helpful articles, including relevant information to discuss with my doctors regarding my high-risk type one pregnancy. Then, when my labor didn't go as planned--I was induced earlier than expected due to pre-eclampsia--Sara showed up right when I needed her, creating a calm environment for the early stages of labor. The wonderful thing about having a doula is they're there just for you, so while our nurses were checking on other patients, Sara was by my side, and her gentle demeanor and wealth of experience made me feel really safe and well cared for the entire time. I'll never forget hearing her voice when it came time to push, because she made me feel like I could absolutely do it.

Her excellent support also extends to postpartum, and having an extra friend and team member during that huge adjustment period is invaluable. To my fellow type one diabetic moms and moms undertaking high-risk pregnancies, I would highly recommend having Sara and the MyBirth team in your corner!

The only way I could describe how invaluable Sara's services are is to quote my husband: "If her fee were 3x as expensive for our next child, I'd still pay it!"

Our first baby, Roy, was born on February 10th, 2021. I can confidently say that I feel empowered by this beautiful birth experience, despite some unexpected twists and turns, because of Sara's around-the-clock support. She was there for me before the baby was born to discuss my fears and anxieties about labor and birth, always bringing a calm, level-headed, yet informed and realistic, perspective. Once I was in labor and we went to the birth center, Sara provided lots of guidance on positions to help move my baby down and into a more ideal position. This really freed up my husband to support me emotionally, as we both trusted Sara completely to guide us through the labor. Sara communicated a calm confidence in me as I labored through moments of self-doubt, like when labor stalled, or when we thought I may need a C-section.

Ultimately, our son was born healthy at the birth center at a whopping 10 lb 13 oz! Sara took beautiful photos of the labor and birth that I love looking back on. After the birth, I had to transfer to the hospital due to hemorrhage, and Sara was there with me, transforming what may have been a scary moment into one where I felt proud of what I had accomplished and completely trusting of my body.

I love telling my birth story to my friends because it makes me feel powerful and strong. I am confident that Sara's presence before, during, and after our birth was instrumental in shaping the outcomes of my birth and my feelings about it afterward.

TL;DR Sara is amazing at what she does. She is passionate about birth and supporting new parents. HIRE A DOULA, period, but especially hire Sara if you can! :)

Sara was my doula for my first child this year. When we originally selected her, we had no idea what was coming our way with this pandemic. When things really started to materialize and I realized this was a part of our lives now, I panicked. When I reached out to Sara, she maintained her calm and she was able to provide her services to me without skipping a beat. Although all the rest of our meetings were now on Zoom, just like my doctors appointments and birthing classes, I didn't feel like I was missing much. I was diligent about doing all the readings she provided so I could ask any questions that came up. The week of my actual labor, I contacted her as frequently as I needed to. The day of, she was able to come to our home and still go to the hospital with us.
I don't know whether it was all the preparing I did based on her recommendations (what to eat, what exercises to do, information on what to expect the day of, etc) but I had the most incredible birth story - beyond what my husband and I could ever imagine. I never thought I could successfully birth a baby without an epidural, almost the entirety of it in my home, and without being completely traumatized by the experience. I thank Sara for being a part of our journey and would definitely recommend her for others that are looking for someone that's easy going and calm throughout the pregnancy and labor.

I chose Sara as my Doula through MyBirth RVA. From the beginning I appreciated her calm, composed personality to mitigate my anxious state of pregnancy. Throughout pregnancy, she checked in on me and provided materials related to pregnancy and birth, many of which helped to guide my birth preferences. When I actually went into labor, Sara helped to keep me from going to the hospital too early due to false labor, and provided essential suggestions on how to help baby get in the right position - which ultimately put me into true labor! I imagined myself giving birth without an epidural, but once I was in the thick of it, I could not have done it without Sara. My husband and I both truly benefited so much from her moral support and suggestios on how to progress, especially once active labor and transition kicked in. Sara also took some really wonderful photos of the birth that remind me of how powerful my body was in those moments. I will definitely be calling Sara when we are expecting our next child!

So grateful for MyBirth’s lactation services! I reached out when I was really having trouble with oversupply, nipple pain, and getting my baby to latch properly. Sara was wonderful, responding the same day that I emailed (on a busy weekend), then talking things through in detail before meeting with me at my home.

It’s amazing just how much more progress we were able to make with breastfeeding just by meeting with Sara in the comfort of our home, rather than venturing out to the pediatrician’s office. The time and attention paid to me and my baby made me feel so much more informed and confident in my breastfeeding abilities. And the only regret I have in booking an in-home lactation visit is that I didn’t do it sooner - it is soooo worth it for anyone needing a little extra support with breastfeeding.

After having latch issues with my firstborn and 13 months of exclusive pumping I was elated when it seemed to come natural to my second child. I had some immediate issues with what appeared to be a heavy letdown and some ill advice led me to pumping excessively again in between feedings at 3 days postpartum.

By 5 weeks we determined I had an oversupply; I had about 600 ounces frozen, a baby rapidly gaining weight and sputtering and choking on milk, and constant painful engorgment. My son would scream while nursing him. It was so disheartening. If I had not found Sara my breastfeeding journey would have ended there.

She provided me with multiple strategies to lessen my milk supply, get me off the pump, and get me and my baby comfortable again. She was incredibly thorough, informative and attentive. She helped me regain my confidence in my ability to successfully breastfeed. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to call Mybirth and Sara.

The MyBirth doulas are nothing short of AMAZING. Choosing Amy as our birth doula has to be one of the best decisions we could have made during our second pregnancy. We first met in a group interview with several other doulas, and both my husband and I felt that we could easily connect with her and that she’d be a wonderful part of our birth team. Dr. Bagley and Meghann Batten at West End Midwifery spoke very highly of her and others at MyBirth, which definitely helped solidify our choice. Amy was so supportive and encouraging throughout my pregnancy, offering great advice and positive feedback, especially when I was feeling anxious about the birth process. During labor, she was always one step ahead and knew what I needed before I did. I’m about 7 weeks postpartum now and still feel like I can out with updates or questions anytime. Amy is the reason I now understand why people say everyone should have a doula for their birth.

And I would be remiss to not give major props to Emily, who I first met about 3 years ago at an ICAN meeting a few months after my first daughter was born. I’ve been going to her VBAC support group ever since. She has been such a major inspiration in my journey from healing from a traumatic birth through achieving an unmedicated VBAC.

I can’t say enough good things about the MyBirth team and how grateful I am to have found and embraced everything they have to offer to new and expecting parents in Richmond.

Sara was the best thing that could have happened during my labor. There is no way I would have been able to do it on my own or without her. I was nervous about having an unmedicated birth but knew I didn't want to deal with the pain I had from a previous epidural. My son was turned facing the wrong way which caused horrible back labor. Sara applied counter-pressure in the all the right places that helped allievate my pain. She helped me breathe through the contractions as she rubbed my back. She picked up on all the signs that it was time to have my baby even though the staff didn't take them as seriously. In the end I had a perfectly healthy baby and was able to have the med free birth that I had dreamed of having. I can't imagine having another baby without Sara by my side.

My Birth is amazing ! Besides all the services and meetings they provide, having a group of doulas working together is a plus  . They back up each other and you get to know them before hand. Also,  it's important to find a doula that connects with you and you feel comfortable with . Since they have many options, it's easier to find one you like.

I worked with Emily and Sara. Both have great experience and a calm but confident attitude . They are caring without being overly sweet (which I find annoying). Emily is also funny .

I recommend them to everyone !

We worked with Sara for the birth of our second child. We couldn't have imagined a better doula. Sara is full of knowledge, kindness, and compassion, and her many years of experience are evident in her approach. She was a calming and empowering presence throughout the pregnancy and during labor. I really appreciated how she stayed in touch with us on a regular basis throughout the last few weeks of pregnancy--she always wanted to hear how my midwife visits were going and how i was feeling. She was exactly what I needed during labor: a calming and loving presence reminding me that I could do it (and the massage techniques and aromatherapy were awesome!). Sara helped make our birth a really beautiful experience.

I also really enjoyed doing classes at MyBirth. We had a great prenatal group class, and the materials provided were excellent. I've also done family yoga at MyBirth with my 4-year-old, and we both loved it. And I highly recommend MyBirth's pregNancy tea.

Having experienced a late pregnancy stillbirth with my first pregnancy, I knew I wanted to work with a doula for my second pregnancy. I began my search on google, and was quickly directed to doulamatch's website. It was through doulamatch that I found MyBirth - and I'm so grateful I did! I had interviewed several doulas who were independent business owners, and when I learned about MyBirth and the amazing "doula group" they've created, I knew they were who I wanted to share my birthing experience with. MyBirth is all about educating, empowering, supporting and serving the mamas they work with. As a whole group, they are a wealth of knowledge and experience that can't be matched! They provide educational classes (including a childbirth course & breastfeeding class- both of which I took!), as well as pre & postnatal yoga. The comfort of knowing that in the event your doula is unavailable for your birth (which is a very rare occurence), they have multiple doulas who can step in and provide you with outstanding support is priceless! I would choose MyBirth over and over again!

Having Amy at our daughter's birth was like having a supportive, reassuring, composed and wise big sister who knew the ropes of birth. We had a plan and ideas about how we wanted it to go for us but talking with her leading up to the day and having her there to act as a sounding board was incredibly helpful to us. You don't know what you don't know but Amy (and MyBirth) fills that gap with kindness, knowledge and experience. For us, we can't imagine our experience without someone just like her present and we are ever grateful she was there.

We were referred to MyBirth by an aquaintance, and ended up taking the 4 week birthing class and hired Laura Grace as our doula. The class was excellent - preparing us well for the stages and process of labor and delivery, and equipping me to have the resources and knowledge to pursue a natural birth as I desired. Laura Grace was phenomenal! She was so helpful before our son arrived, sending us articles and information, helping us create a birth plan, and consistently encouraging us so that we felt confident and prepared. She was patient as my due date came and passed and we waited 11 days for labor to start, and then a rock and constant support & encouragement for both my husband and I during my 36 hours of labor. She created an atmosphere of peace and calm in the delivery room, and was exactly what we needed. We are so thankful for her, and can't wait to have her there for our future babies' births!!

I cannot express how invaluable Bailey was before, after, and during my birth! In addition to her ability to answer every pregnancy question I had, she was a great coach and helped me to not completely lose myself during a difficult labor. She also gave me the knowledge and support in order for me to make decisions about my care without regrets. My birth did not go according to my birth plan and having Bailey there to talk through it alleviated any disappointment I may have felt otherwise. She was insightful during the post-partum visits and helped me to adjust to my new role as a mother. Bailey was exactly what I needed as a first-time mother: always available for questions, a treasure-trove of valuable information, and confident and encouraging during the delivery.

My husband and I met with Bailey and I immediately knew she was a fit for us. Her calm demeanor along with wide knowledge base helped me throughout both my pregnancy and delivery. I was a VBAC patient and very nervous; still emotionally recovering from my previous C-section. Bailey provided me with literature and tools to help ease my mind and prepare me for the VBAC experience.

When I went into labor, Bailey was irreplaceable. She was a vital part of my birth team and I truly feel that I could not have been successful without her by my side. I labored a long time (36 hours) and she was right there with me for the whole experience. She remained a steady source of encouragement and helped ease my nerves as contractions became unbearable.

My husband was skeptical about hiring a doula when we first discussed it. After working with Bailey, he agrees that she was critical to my successful VBAC. I delivered a 10pd 6oz baby girl VBAC. I absolutely loved working with her and would highly recommend her to anyone considering a doula.

MyBirth is such a wonderful asset to Richmond! This beautiful group of women are providing wonderful services for the birth community. I'm so glad I took advantage of so many of them! We used Bailey as our doula and it was absolutely the best decision we made in our second pregnancy! She was so kind, knowledgable, confident, and has a hugely positive reputation with physicians in our practice. She without a doubt helped our dream birth come true! We also took advantage of prenatal classes with Joy. Even though this was our second child, we still learned a lot and my husband really enjoyed them. I also did prenatal yoga with Laura Grace and it was the highlight of my week! I loved the sisterhood and support I felt from joinging other expectant mommas to practice each week. They also provide breastfeeding support for before and after birth as well as a multitude of other educational classes. We are so happy we found MyBirth and recommend their services to all expectant moms. We love everyone we met there! Thank you for everything, ladies!

MyBirth Doula was Jenny Fisher.  It has taken  me a bit to take time to write my experience, not because it was bad, but because I did not have the birth that I had hoped to have. My beautiful son was born May, 17, 2017.  I had wanted to have a natural birth with all the bells and whistles, such as staying at home as long as possible, no medical interventions, including medications and of course I was not goint to ever have a C-SECTION.  Boy was I wrong and Jenny helped me and supported me the entire way.  Not only was Jenny their for my Physically, getting things I needed and being a awesome support person for my husband.  He was hesitatant at first about a Doula, but he stated to me after our son was born that he appreciated her so much, especially when he had to leave.  I had her with me the entire time.  Jenny also supported me emotionally.  I was having a rough time with having to be induced for medical reasons and then having to have the C-section... which was not by choice.  I cried  and cried so many times and she was their for me every time.   I strongly support having a Doula and having Jenny.  If I ever have anothe child, I will be using Jenny as my Doula.

Where do I even begin? Bailey was absolutely amazing and I wouldn't have made it through without her! She was there for me from the beginning with any questions or concerns I had during my pregnancy. She always took time out to check in on me and make sure that everything with my pregnancy was going well. When I went into labor she helped to calm me down and remind me of different things to do to stay comfortable before we went to the hospital. Once we were at the hospital and in the thick of things she helped to press on my pressure points, motivate me, and remind me of what was happening and how to get through it. She was absolutely amazing. Bailey not only helped me but she helped my husband get me through labor. When my "plan" wasn't working she supported me and every decision I made. I couldn't have done it without her. Thank you Bailey!!! You are truly amazing!

I can't recommend Jenny and MyBirth highly enough. Jenny was connected and supportive throughout my pregnancy, sending relevant information to our discussions or just checking in to see how I was doing. When I learned my baby was breach, Jenny was my first call - she was present for the version procedure and when that was unsuccessful, she was a wonderful source of support and information on exploring next steps. Ultimately when I decided that scheduling a c-section was the right choice for me, Jenny helped us craft a family centered plan for cesarean, came to the hospital, took the most beautiful photos of our new-born daughter, and was a resource during those crazy first weeks at home. As a first time mom and new to Richmond, Jenny was a source of calm and reassurance. She is warm, loving, and FUN. I also have to recommend MyBirth's labor preparation classes - my husband and I came away totally informed and with less anxiety. We also made a ton of friends that I treasure now. MyBirth truly is a community and Jenny is a wonderful part of it!

When I fell pregnant, birth and growing into the role of mother were daunting prospects for me. However, hiring perfect strangers to support me and to share one of the most intimate moments of my life with was also intimidating. I am so glad that I ultimately choose to take the leap of faith and hired MyBirth for support. The staff at MyBirth truly understand what it is like to go through the transition into parenthood and approaches clients with compassion, realism, and a strong sense of community. They are there to meet you wherever you are with your journey. I quickly opened up to the staff and felt very comfortable at their facilities.

My husband and I took a childbirth education class at MyBirth with Joy Brock as well as hired Laura-Grace Zetlan as a doula. We were provided with a great set of educational resources that were up-to-date, practical, and inclusive. Furthermore, any questions we had were answered thoroughly and included suggestions for community resources for additional support if we needed it. MyBirth has an extensive network of well-qualified professionals, both in-house and out, to help support any prenatal, birth, or postpartum need.

The environment at MyBirth is so loving and inclusive; I can’t recommend it enough as a place to come for birth support that is personal and meets a wide array of individual needs. The staff really makes a great effort to be welcoming and to be present with you through your whole experience. This does achieve their company’s goal of leaving clients feeling prepared for any birth outcome and empowered about their personal birth experience. If you are looking for childbirth support of any kind, I would highly recommend getting it through MyBirth.

Bailey is a spectacular doula because while I don’t miss my pregnancy and L&D, I do miss her from those times. I don’t miss having a terrible time trying to regulate my sugars due to gestational diabetes but I do miss her emails telling me all would be well. I don’t miss the crazy SPD pain but I do miss the thorough research Bailey did about the subject to help ease my pain. I don’t miss my water breaking movie-style but I do miss her reminding me of what I needed to do next because my mind had drawn a blank. I don’t miss crawling to the door at home when I couldn’t take the contractions any longer but I do miss her eagerness to help when she met us at the hospital. I don’t miss asking for drugs but I do miss her sweetly distracting me because she knew I didn’t really want interventions by filling up the bathtub. I don’t miss the doctor counting down each push but I do miss hearing Bailey’s calming voice to my left helping me visualize my strength and progress. I don’t miss the hyperventilating from the pain but I do miss Bailey’s offer of honey which distracted me and gave me that extra energy I needed to meet my girl. I do miss holding my baby for the first time and in my foggy state seeing Bailey taking pictures of my husband cutting the cord. I don’t miss the severe engorgement that occurred once I was home but I do miss the brownies she brought over because she knew they were one of the foods I wanted to eat once my gestational diabetes was gone. I don’t miss suffering through mastitis or any other difficulty I’ve had as a new mom so far but I do miss her texts either comforting me, giving me advice, or just offering to come over even though her official visits that we paid for are long gone.
Even though I miss our time together, I know she will always be a text or phone call away and just knowing that gives me tremendous strength.

Jenny is warm and friendly person who feels like an old friend as soon as you meet her. We used her for our second baby. Our insurance required we use a Bon Secours hospital instead of our first choice at VCU Medical Center, where we had our first with the midwives. Despite having been through a birth once without a doula, I felt strongly that my experience with my second birth would be greatly improved with Jenny's help. I was right. I was never comfortable with my doctor and nurses helping create the birth plan I wanted at St. Mary's. What I wanted was a natural, low-intervention, non-medical experience. That wasn't entirely possible. I was keenly aware of the sterile smell of the room and that it made me mildly nautious. Jenny came prepared with aroma therapy that instantly took the edge off my nerves. Her greatest gift to us was the advice she was able to give my husband to help relieve some of the pressure from my contractions. Her help was memorable, caring, and invaluable to me. Having her there to take pictures of the birth was an added bonus that I am so greatful for.

Before I became pregnant I read a lot of articles and stories from other women about the benefits of a natural birth and using a doula. So when I found out I was pregnant one of the first things I did was get in touch with MyBirth for their doula services. My husband and I met with Jenny Fisher and liked her from the start. She is very knowledgable, kind, and reassuring. When we met for the prenatal visit, I expressed my fear of giving birth, and she patiently listened to all my concerns and walked me through them. My labor was not like most first timers and when it started, it progressed very quickly. Jenny didn't get a chance to meet me at home during labor because before we knew it, my husband and I were rushing to the hospital, afraid we weren't going to make it. However, my husband was on the phone with Jenny several times, including en route to the hospital, and when we arrived she was there waiting by the entrance with a wheelchair, ready to wheel me to delivery. She was a calming presence during the birth (which happened a mere 45 minutes after we arrived). She checked in on us the next day and one week later for post partum. If you are looking for a doula, I highly recommend Jenny.

I am very satisfied with MyBirth experience. My doula is amazing and is Laura Zetlan. She has been so supportive throughout the pregnancy and has answered so many of my questions and concerns. Also, she has been a blessing through prodromal/pre labor since it is very fustrating at times. Also, the yoga class she offers is wonderful and is relaxing yet also a great workout to prepare for birth.  Lastly, all the doulas I met in the group class and pregnancy class are supportive, knowledgable, and loving. I'm so impressed and so grateful that I picked my doula and went with MyBirth.

MyBirth has been an incredible resource for us. We got connected with them when we were just 10 weeks pregnant and that allowed us to take full advantage of everything they have to offer. We attended the 12 hour birth course, the low intervention birth class at Henrico Doctors, and the breast feeding class. We had Jenny as our doula and she has been an incredible source of prenatal and postpartum support. She helped me advocate for myself when my OB and I weren't on the same page; she connected me with the midwives at HDH to have the low intervention birth I wanted; she coached both me and my husband through the labor and delivery of our little boy; and she helped me a great deal by connecting me with a local lactation consultant when I had difficulty breast feeding. Our involvement with MyBirth helped me and my husband feel educated, informed, and empowered throughout all phases of our pregnancy and as first time parents of a newborn. I wish every woman in RVA could work with their amazing team!

I cannot recommend MyBirth highly enough.  I first discovered this excellent group by attending their Low Intervention Birth class, led by Emily Bruno.  I immediately knew that I wanted to hire Emily to be my doula.  While I was pregnant, she checked in with me often, supplied pertinent reading materials to inform and prepare me for birth, and was always available to answer questions.  I was hoping for an unmedicated birth, but knew that Emily would fully support me through any possible birth outcome.  The day of my induction, she calmly and expertly guided me through the progression of my labor, and provided exactly what I needed every step of the way.  With her guidance and support, I experienced the unmedicated birth I had hoped for, a smooth transition into the world for my son, and an easy recovery.  Every laboring woman should have a doula like Emily Bruno!

We took a birth refresher course for our second child with Emily Bruno, and it was wonderful. Lots of helpful information and an approach to monitoring and progressing labor that made our actual birth experience so positive and informed. Emily surrounded us with a supported environment, and had we not already lined up a doula we adore, we would have certainly felt comfortable hiring Emily or anyone else on her team as our doula. The class was so good we actually referenced the materials in the middle of birth even though it was our second child. We felt very confident, and I've referred all my friends to MyBirth for their classes because of it. They also offer great products, including a sooth post-partum bath and spray. It's a great organization committed to women's health and giving you the tools for the birth experience that YOU want.
