Summary of qualifications

As a board member of NBDA, I have worked with the founder Tracie Collins to enhance the curriculum for birth doulas. It was imperative to me as a doula of 18 years to ensure that doulas (especially black doulas) have not only the history of this work but the tools, skills and knowledge base to carry it out.

Style of teaching

We cannot fix maternal disparities by creating disparities in trainings and education modules. Birth justice is a tenet of doula work but so is evidence-based birth advocacy. Understanding more than just the stages of labor, but how to doula within them and recognize when birth needs interventions is crucial for safe and empowered birthing families.
