HAPPY MAMA HEALTHY BABY ALLIANCE
This course meets all requirements for Doulas working with pregnant people in the California Medicaid Program (Medi-Cal). The course focus is on working with persons of color in community settings in order to address persistent perinatal health inequities and disparities occurring among BIPOC pregnant women and infants. We will discuss historical racism inflicted on women of color during reproductive health care, the social determinants of health (i.e., poverty) and the Community Doula's role in mitigating racially-induced stressors leading to preterm labor, maternal mortaility, prematurity, and infant mortality. We will also learn how to support women during pregnancy, childbirth and the immediate postpartum period. We will learn labor support techniques, the advantages and disadvantages of medical interventions, cesarean prevention, identifying Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, and more.
