HAPPY MAMA HEALTHY BABY ALLIANCE
This course focuses on providing doula support for BIPOC pregnant women and infants, addressing perinatal health disparities. Topics include historical racism in reproductive healthcare, social determinants of health (e.g., poverty), and the Community Doula's role in reducing stressors linked to preterm labor and maternal and infant mortality. Participants will learn about pregnancy and childbirth support methods, breastfeeding, immediate postpartum care, and the effects of social determinants on low-income pregnant individuals. Additionally, the course covers cross-cultural communication, labor support techniques, medical intervention pros and cons, cesarean prevention, informed consent, obstetric violence, and identifying Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. Apprenticeships and employment opportunities are available after certification, along with assistance in becoming Medi-Cal credentialed to work as a Medi-Cal doula in California.
