My husband wanted to comment too and we didnt have enough room to add it to our other testimonial.  Sorry for doubling up but we thought it was important to include his perspective too!  Much love, Libby, Nate, and Vera Grace

From my husbands perspective: "I couldn't have done this without Meaghen. She was so helpful, gentle, and informative. She gave me queues and tips that allowed me to help my wife. She gave me so much information and helped in talking with the doctors so I could go back to my wife and take care of her better, ask the questions that needed answering, etc. There is so much going on during this whole experience. Meaghen allows you to understand better, relax more, stay on course, stay present, and most of all allowed my wife to do what she needed to do while we took care of everything else. We enjoyed this experience so much and I know it was because of Meaghen."

Meaghen is warm, inviting, educated, and is very passionate about what she does. She has a wealth of knowledge on so many topics and even if there was something she didn't have experience with she would research and reach out to her contacts to get you the most information possible and any trusted personal experience references. This was the first birth for my husband and I. There is so much going on, so much to listen to, discuss, and so many doctors and nurses involved. To have someone advocate on behalf of us knowing our full birth plan and meaningful wishes allowed for us to concentrate on each other and on being in the moment. Meaghen was amazing leading up to the birth but when she came to the hospital to be with us is where she shined even brighter! From my perspective I felt safe, protected, loved, and comfortable being and staying in the "zone". I knew that Meaghen was working her magic and helping my husband support me. She was never intrusive, asked follow up questions so my husband and I had ALL of the information and different options, and gave us enough space and alone time to be together. We experienced a long drawn out birth of our little girl and Meaghen was there for it all, never let me give up, and made me feel like I could take on the world! She knew exactly when we needed some space, knew when to chime in, and knew exactly how to read my signs and never skipped a beat transitioning along with me and my needs. After 3 days of trying to be induced, we ended up needing a c-section. Meaghen stayed the whole time until we were in the postpartum wing and all settled in. We stayed in touch through the recovery days in the hospital as well as up until the postpartum visit once I was home. She was always available to me if I needed anything for which I was so thankful for.

Thank you so much, Meaghen! It was a true blessing to have you with us!

I had a clear idea of what I wanted my birth to look like, but we all know things never go perfectly according to plan.  Meaghen came to the hospital early to be with my husband and I as we navigated our new path.  She was a calm and constant presence, and knew when to give us time to ourselves.  When my husband needed some sleep, I really relied on Meaghen to keep me focused and keep my spirit going.  She was very aware of how I was laboring and what I needed her for - sometimes a touch, sometimes advice, sometimes words of encouragement.  I was very inward focused, but I could hear her words to me clear as day and they were exactly what I needed at the time.  Meaghen interacted great with the hospital staff as well, and there were many different personalities to deal with throughout my stay.

When I went searching for a doula, I knew I would need someone who knew the many paths that birth can take and help me navigate them calmly.  Meaghen was an integral part of my birth team and I'm so grateful she was there to help me have the safe, natural birth that I wanted.

As a first-time mother who strongly wanted an unmedicated birth, I suspected that I could benefit from a doula, but it was difficult to know in advance what type of help I would need beyond my husband's support. As it turned out, I did give birth free of interventions, as I had hoped—and I am so very grateful that Meaghen was with me.

At the hospital, it was a relief to see her familiar, encouraging face, to hear her reassurances that things were going fine, and to feel her confident hands on my back when I needed them. Throughout, Meaghen focused on me, doing whatever was necessary at the moment, and also helped my husband help me. I'm not sure how well I would have done without her calm, steady, experienced presence.

Meaghen is a mother of three (all by natural childbirth), and our conversations about her own experiences were valuable preparation for me. Without pushing any agenda—she would be equally supportive in honoring any woman's wishes for her birth experience—Meaghen wisely counciled me to be open to the unexpected. Her warmth, friendliness, and easygoing manner gave me confidence in her and in myself. Meaghen generously visited us at home to see if we'd be a good fit, and she was available by phone in the weeks leading up to my due date whenever I needed her.

After my daughter's birth, Meaghen stayed to make sure we all settled in all right in the recovery room. And a followup visit from her at our home a few weeks later helped me talk through and make sense of my experience—this was important to me, and something that could easily be overlooked in the excitement and exhaustion of caring for a new baby.

I agree with Meaghen that every mother deserves a doula. She was an excellent one for me. I highly recommend her.
