Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

I have over 25 years of experience as a Doula, I have had the privilege of working and volunteering with numerous groups in various roles. My career includes working for Alameda County Social Services, where I provided support for youth in the foster program who were expecting babies, helping them prepare for birth and parenting. I was one of the first volunteer Doulas at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma. During the swine flu pandemic, I created the Doula On-Call program for Capital Medical Center. Additionally, I served on the Advisory Board for Mariella, contributing to the development of their program into what it is today, and was among the first Madriella Birth Doula hands-on trainers. I was also a founding board member of BABI (Bay Area Birth Info) in San Jose, CA. As a Certified Peer Counselor, I bring a non-judgmental attitude and unconditional support, backed by years of experience as a Doula. I firmly believe in supporting your birth choices—whether you choose to give birth in a hospital, birthing center, or at home; whether you opt for a C-section, epidural, or an all-natural birth. It is your birth, your way, and I am here to support you throughout your journey.

I can't say enough positive things about my experience with Birth & More. Bev was present when my sister delivered her baby. The delivery had many complications and resulted in several traumatic events. Bev was not only extremely attentive and supportive to the family and their needs, but she was an amazing resource when the doctor's weren't speaking "English" and we needed someone to translate medical talk for us. I would highly highly recommend Birth & More to anyone who is pregnant, the services provided are personal on a level that makes you feel like family, not just another client.

My birth was a hard and long journey. I was happy to have Bev with me the whole time. She stuck by my side with all 3 days of my labor and even stayed when we transffered to the hospital. She Helped me through the pain even better then my own mother could she made me feel powerful and like a real woman. She reassured me that even though the birth ended up in a c section i tried my hardest and that i was doing the best thing for me and my baby. I would reccomend her to anyone who is about to give birth. I ask her back for another birth if i ever get pregnant again.

My husband and I put much thought and prayer into who we would hire as a doula for the birth of our second son. We both connected with Beverly at the initial interview and sensed her realness, acceptance and  compassion for others. My husband felt like he could really partner with her to support me during the birth. Beverly's real life experiences have equipped her to support families wishes regarding their birth experience rather than impose her own ideals or expectations on families. Beverly let us know that she was there for us whenever we might need her and when the time came she rose to the occasion!  Beverly came and met us at our home even though we had a hospital birth planned. Having that extra support after she arrived really made those last hours of labor more livable. When we had to quickly leave for the hospital ( I got the urge to push on the way there) Beverly again was calm and available as she was able to identify and meet needs quickly without us even asking. An example of this was how she volunteered to park our van that was parked in front of the hospital so that my husband would not miss the birth and so that we would not get a ticket. When she returned we were holding our son and she was again there to support us with the initial breastfeeding and such. Beverly is a very supportive and caring person and we highly recommend her!

I like to call Beverly my "Angel."  When I met her, my life instantly gained an added sense of peace to it.  She is is cheerful and calming.  She volunteered her time to assist me in preparing for and delivering my baby while my husband was deployed.  She even accompanied me to my childbirth class and participated w/ me as my support person.  She is so knowledgable, yet not pushy either.  She listened to what I wanted and was so respectful.  She talked to me about different options she thought I might want to know about and then sat back and let me make my decision with her complete support.

She helped to make my delivery a dream come true!  It was one of the best experiences of my life due, in great part, to Bev!

Thank you Bev!

I'm grateful to have Beverly as my doula the day our daughter was born. Wthout her presence, I would be stressed, sad and lonely.  My soldier, my husband couldn't be there to comfort me during the labor.  He's deployed in Iraq.  Although, someone could help!  Beverely came in, brought light and comfort in hospital room.  She helped me focus on labor breathings, gave few advises to ease the pains from contractions, and just be there to keep me company.  She made my day gone by fast without thinking when baby would ever get out.  My husband and l really appreicate that!  If someone give me the scale of her performance from 1 to 10.  I'll definitely say 11 plus!  Two thumbs up!  Thank you, Beverly and God bless you too!

I injured my neck/back while giving birth to my son, so I asked Bev to help care for both myself and my son post-birth.  She was fantastic - such a warm and skilled caregiver.  Very knowledgeable about both mothers and babies.  If I had to do it again, I would hire her as my birth doula.  I highly recommend Bev.   -- Sincerely, Carol Liou
