We met Allison 3 weeks before the birth of our twins, but it was like we had known each other for years! She came to meet us and within minutes, both my husband and I knew that we were in for an even more fulfilling delivery! Allison took care of me, made me laugh (which is important to me), and helped guide us through to a fairly pleasant delivery. Even though she had suffered the loss of someone very close to her, she stayed with us all night and took the most beautiful photos of the birth of our babies. What she did for this first time Mom was worth millions to us! We will be forever grateful to her for helping give me the strength to (with the help of an epidural) have a vaginal birth. If you are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, loving doula, Allison will be a great advocate for you!

Allison was an encouragement from the very first conversation I had with her. She immediately offered supportive words and an encouraging attitude, a kind of "can do" spirit about the process without being overbearing. Shelped me thing about pain medications, and offered suggestions for achieving a quick labor and work through my "moment of birth" anxieties. I was really looking forward to the "bag of tricks" she would bring to the labor, as well as her presence of mind to help us be alert to what was going on with my body as labor progressed (or didn't). Unfortunately, we didn't get to use her "bag of tricks" because once we got to the hospital, Johanna was born just 53 minutes later, and almost in the staff bathroom. Although sorry to not have had a bit of "pampering" during the labor, I couldn't have been more delighted with such a short wait time once we got to the hospital. It relieved any difficulty of an overly zealous hospital staff or the pain of birth. The birth was so fast, I didn't have time to worry about either, and I credit Allison in helping with that. In fact the whole week before I gave birth, she gave me tremendous support that really helped me get over some rough spots. I went into false labor a whole week before finally giving birth. I had no idea what to make of what was happening to my body, and I was disappointed by a lack of progress, but also tired from lack of sleep as contractions would increase at night. I was feeling disappointed, discouraged and stupid. She did nothing but give me encouragement. She helped to steady my emotional state, giving me a burst of perseverance and steadiness while I waited for true labor to set in. She offered practical advice on the positioning of the baby, and ultimately, when I was finally in labor, but was lacking consistency in contraction timing, she encouraged Nathan and I to do lunges. It couldn't have been more than 1.5-2 hours later that Johanna was born.

When my wife suggested that we contact Allison to discuss her assistance in the upcoming birth of our son, I had never before heard of a doula and had no idea what her function would be. The closest correlation that I could make was to that of a midwife, and having already found an ob/gyn that we were quite comfortable with to deliver our baby, I failed to see the need for the assistance of this strange, unfamiliar "doula" that she spoke of.
I agreed to a meeting with Allison, fully expecting to come away with affirmation of my misgivings. However, during the course of that first meeting, I became a believer. Not only was Allison able to allay my fears at the thought of introducing another participant into this very intimate occasion, but her knowledge, professionalism and disarming demeanor encouraged me to view her participation as a necessity. We acquired her services immediately.
She became, and remains, an integral part of our family. Including her in the extraordinary event of the birth of our son Reed turned out to be one of the best decisions that we have ever made. When we get pregnant again, you can be sure that the first call we make will be to Allison; and this time the only decision to make will be hers..."Should I take them up on their request for me to move in with them for the next nine months?"

As a single pregnant mother, the thought of being in the delivery room alone was terrifying.  Allison made me feel comfortable from the moment we met.  She was very supportive throughout my pregnancy.  When I finally went into labor she came to my home and offered support while I labored at home and she drove me to the hospital and took care of me through the delivery and after.    She communicated with the hospital nursing staff at my request, got me snacks, massaged my back, etc.    Her knowledge of the labor and delivery process was so valuable, even though this was my second child I learned so much from her that helped me along the way.   She has also provided post-partum doula services here at my home and is just wonderful with the baby and again a wealth of knowledge!  My 4 year old son enjoyed beating her at tic tac toe in the driveway!   In short, I would recommend Allison Connor if you're looking for a supportive, reliable, knowledgable doula who takes her job very seriously and truly enjoys what she does for a living!
