We had an amazing experience with Sara as our doula. She was very helpful in preparing us for labor by taking the time to walk through our birth plan step by step and practice different labor positions with us prior to going into labor. This preparation was invaluable as it helped us feel more prepared and decrease the anxiety that can surround labor and delivery. She also made sure we had a game plan for the unexpected events that can happen during labor so we would feel as prepared and in control as possible which was reassuring.

During the labor process, Sara was a wonderful advocate for me and my partner at the hospital. She was extremely helpful in keeping the labor progressing with different positional changes which was our number one goal. From the beginning, I knew I would eventually want an epidural but was worried that this would stall my labor. Sara was aware of this concern and therefore recommended position changes following the epidural to ensure labor continued to progress. Throughout this process, she always checked in and made sure I had the energy and desire to continue with this birth plan which was reassuring to know that we were not locked into one plan and she had back up options ready for us as needed. Without these reminders and encouragement, I would have been much more likely to stay in one position and experienced a much longer labor.

Sara not only helped with the physical aspect of labor but also helped with the emotional side of it. She kept the environment calm with dim lights, candles, and music. She was very intuitive about when to allow my partner take the lead on different support maneuvers and when we would benefit from alone time to process the labor experience. Overall, I would strongly recommend Sara as a doula to anyone as she takes your personal goals to heart and does everything she can to get you the best labor and delivery experience possible.

We had an absolutely magical  experience with Sara :) At first I wasn't sure if I even wanted a doula -- would I want someone new to me in the room? at such an intimate and intense moment? -- and I'm so incredibly grateful that I listened to my friends, who raved about their own experiences with doulas, and decided to work with Sara. We are so indebted to her. During labor, my husband, a saint, did what he could, but as a first time mom i didn't yet know what I didn't know -- and it was Sara who knew what we'd need to know. Before I went into labor, she had thought of everything so that I didn't have to: I knew I wanted a dark and warm room; when Sara arrived at the hospital, she had fairy lights and flameless candles and she quickly put the room together without my even noticing. When the pain worsened, she knew how to position me, knew what to ask me, what to suggest to me. She noticed when it was time to change positions; she knew how to massage and touch me. Anything I might have needed (heat packs, massage rollers, labor combs, etc) Sara had brought it and already had it ready. Nurses and doctors/midwives are very much in and out during labor -- I love my midwife but we didn't see her consistently until it was time to push -- and can be such a crapshoot -- I could have done without one nurse -- so it was such a blessing to have the constant presence of an knowledgeable, compassionate, wise professional whose attention was completely on me, and on my son. She was absolutely my steadiest advocate.

I had an impossibly smooth delivery as a first time mom, and I credit Sara so much for that -- for creating the environment in which I could focus solely on birthing my child, in which I knew I was safe and supported, and so was my baby. We cannot recommend her strongly enough!
