Neither my husband nor I knew exactly what a doula does but we wanted all the help we could get and went for it. Holy crap - did we need a doula. Our birth plan, unfortunately, went out the window and crash landed in a dumpster fire. But Alice was there to explain what was going on, to support my husband as he cried seeing me in pain, to coach me through various positions to (successfully!) get my baby to go sunny side down when she was sunny side up, to hold my hand, massage my feet, go to the hospital and BACK when they turned us away, napped in our apartment along with my best friend, to work with the hospital nurses to help make decisions as close to my birth plan as possible, and when after I don't even know - 48 hours of labor??, I was told I should consider a C-Section for my health and the health of my baby, Alice was there to re-assure me that this wasn't my fault, that I can still bond with my baby, and that while this wasn't what I had wanted, it was the right decision. I needed to hear that from as many people as possible. When you go into birth wanting an unmedicated, minimal intervention experience, I'm sure there are some birth workers who take "natural" birth to the extreme and make people feel like failures for anything different. I received that messaging from a lot of people but not from Alice. Honestly thank goth for Alice, and not just for me as the birthing person but for my partner. Alice got him a sandwich for Pete's sake. If you only have one dude in your delivery room, let that dude be Alice. Also, his suggestions for a phone tree and one of those 3 tiered rolling carts were solid. Best thing in his birth bag: Lip goo. Trust.

During our first birth we felt so unseen by the medical staff, as if their main goal was to get us through their checklist. While working with Alice, he made us feel heard and really helped us navigate the hospital culture and have our needs met. Alice is very well researched and knowledgable while being able to deliver all the info in an approachable, understandable way. Every meeting he had at least three suggestions based on our needs at the time. His thoughtful, warm approach was personable and we could tell he was genuinely there to support us. Having that support helped us be prepared to advocate for ourselves. I’d highly recommend having Alice on your team for his compassionate and excellent care!

Definitely recommend hiring a doula for postpartum and Alice is fantastic!

I am so glad I decided to hire a doula for my postpartum period. I’m a young mom (this was my first kid) and had a relatively easy pregnancy and birth, biggest complication was a 2nd degree tear! I was on the fence about getting a doula for postpartum but ultimately decided to give it a go and never regretted it once!

I have a history with mental health struggles and having Alice there to bounce thoughts off of was so worth it, especially when my fiance went back to work shortly after our baby was born. Instead of getting caught up in anxiety and second guessing myself like I usually do Alice really listened to me and never just waved off my concerns not matter how small they were. He always provided honest but still compassionate answers and was always ready with extra resources. Even between visits I felt comfortable reaching out if I was ever unsure of something.

Due to COVID we decided to do some virtual visits also. Obviously, you don’t get the physical support with chores around the house or being able to grab a nap etc, but I still recommend them if in-person isn’t an option for you. Alice guided that time just enough to give it structure and still be practical while giving me and my fiance, when he was there, enough space to get our needs met.

I really felt Alice went above and beyond what I was expecting. He not only helped us in the moment of postpartum but really supported us in figuring out the parents we wanted to be. Our baby is almost 9 months now and we are still using advice and resources Alice gave us months ago. We definitely want to have more kids and will 100% be hiring Alice again if possible.
