Relevant volunteer or advocacy work

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology I started working for non-profits supporting people with their mental health and addiction challenges. This work is where my passion for helping people was born. In 2015 my best friend found out she was pregnant with her first baby. Early on she asked if I would be with her during the labour and birth. I recognized that this was a huge responsibility and honor, so I set out to learn everything I could about pregnancy and birth. This was when I first read the word "Doula". When my friend's labour began I was able to remain by her side and support her from the first contraction through to the birth of her beautiful baby girl the next day. It was during this process that I fell in love with supporting families through this life-changing experience. I have never felt so vital and useful. That day a baby and a doula were born! I am trained as a Birth Doula through both Douglas College and The Mothering Touch Center. I have attended and completed several breastfeeding courses. I am a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist certifying through IPPA. I am certified in First Aid through St. John's Ambulance, Foodsafe, WHMIS, and Bloodborne Pathogens and Infection Control. I would love to meet with you for a free consultation to see if I am a good match for your family. Please check out my website for more information about services and pricing www.bestdaydoula.ca

Whitney was an absolute godsend! Pregnant for the first time, my partner and I were both brand new to all things pregnancy and baby. Whitney not only brought the expertise but also made us feel at ease with her calming and positive energy and of course also educating us on all kinds of pain management techniques. It was extremely comforting to know what to expect when the day grew nearer and have our options laid out for us. She was available for questions that arose as we neared our due date, and when baby came early, she was right there supporting us through the delivery and even making me laugh. Her postpartum visits were also helpful as she helped with the latch and answered more of my anxious baby questions. We couldn’t recommend Whitney more; so happy to have had her be a part of our journey.

Whitney has been a dream and an absolutely solid resource for my family over the past year. Whitney has supported me with postpartum doula services since January 2022. For me as a new mom, she was helpful and educational, supportive and uplifting. For my son she was loving and warm, calming and engaging. Whitney is extremely flexible and willing to adapt to your personal babycare schedule. She has always been encouraging of me to take personal time to ensure that I'm keeping on top of my own mental health, and striking a good balance in my life between mom duties and keeping my own sense of self. I would highly recommend Whitney for her doula services! She has been a fantastic postpartum doula, but I look forward to using her as my birthing doula in subsequent pregnancies :)

We were first-time parents in the middle of the pandemic. Our son arrived early and with some difficulty, and it was a challenge for all three of us to get into a rhythm once we got home.

Whitney was fantastic. She overnighted with our son several times over about two months, and she was an enormous help. Whitney was great with our son, always had a kind word and a joke for the tired parents, and adaptable as our schedules and plans changed. She was also diligent about COVID safety, which was one less thing to worry about. When we were having trouble with sleep schedules and feeding, Whitney was full of good advice.

If you're on the fence, I strongly encourage you to hire Whitney for a night. You won't regret it. We would have had much more trouble making it through the first two months without her.

We have an absolute amazing experience with Whitney. She stayed with us from the start of contractions in the hospital, and helped us get home, where we had an perfect experience. She helped us keep cool, manage pain, was empathetic and helpful. But most importantly, she helped put my extremely anxious husband at ease. I had always wanted a home birth, but he was very nervous. She helped him understand each stage as it happened and everything went amazing! We hope to use Whitney again in the future, when we have a second child.

Whitney is incredible! Both my partner and I are so glad we had her be a part of our birthing journey. She is kind, compassionate, supportive, attuned, and available.

I'll be honest, I didn't have a clue what was going on during my labour. Everything happened so fast! What I do remember is Whitney having my back throughout the entire process. At times, my partner had a "deer in the headlights" appearance, and I'm forever grateful that Whitney was there to support both of us at such an emotional time. One super important piece, that demonstrates Whitney's attunement and detail-orientated nature, she kept me hydrated!! This may seem like a small feat but with everything going on, having a drink of water seems to be the last thing on everyone's minds and is so critical.

One last note: Whitney is hilarious and probably has the most contagious laugh I've ever heard. It's a beautiful sound and something I desperately needed to lighten the labor mood, haha. As I say above, she is incredibly attuned and I know she would not integrate her humour if it didn't feel right for the family she was working with, however it's there if needed ;)

Thank you for everything Whitney. You will always receive a positive recommendation from me and my family!

I had whitney as my doula for my first and man was I lucky she was there! She got there at the perfect time bc baby was not waiting and her calm and warm attitude kept me reassured during the chaos. Somehow she managed to catch and photograph the birth at the same time idk how it all got done but having her there was a blessing.

Hiring Whitney was the single best decision of my pregnancy. She was there with support and unbiased info when I was overwhelmed and needed to make decisions at the end of my pregnancy. She was amazing support during my labour - for me and my husband both - and was there for us afterwards when we were having trouble breastfeeding.

Because of the way my labour went, we spent some time at the hospital on our own and it was a night and day difference when she arrived. We will 100% call on her again if we have another baby.

Absolutely loved having Whitney from Best Day Doula services as my midwife. I felt so comfortable with her. As first time parents we were super nervous when I went into labor but she was right there giving us suggestions, massages, or feeding me M&Ms! She calmed both my nerves and my husbands nerves with her warm and loving demeanour combined with her assertiveness. I was so happy to have her in the delivery room and constantly looked for her for reassurance. She was exactly what you need as a mom in labor (or as a partner). The pictures she took of my son in his first moments with us after he was born was such a treat. I will absolutely use Whitney and the Best Day Doula team again, and highly recommend!

The "best" doula service ever. I had a 38 hour labour and Whitney was there for about 34 hours of it. She knew what to do when I had contractions and was super helpful. Hubby said he wouldn't have been able to do it without her. She is also easy to talk to. Her prices too are most reasonable. She visits you twice around 35 weeks and then twice after birth at home. I would recommend her 100%.

Whitney is an amazing doula: she has tonnes of energy, is very much committed, and clearly understands how she can best provide support through the birthing process. I have no hesitation in recommending her.

Whitney is amazing. She's extremely knowledgeable, which is comforting as first-time parents.

Her approach to the birthing experience (before, during, and after) was one of support, kindness, and understanding. She made us feel at ease throughout the entire process.
Thanks to Whitney we had a great/unique experience that included watching Crimson Tide and Seinfeld while in labour!

Whitney is a consummate professional, and you would be lucky to have her level of expertise!

People often suggest having a doula. We cannot imagine that doula being anyone else but Whitney.

From our very first meeting with Whitney, we felt her genuine sense of care, professionalism, and expertise. It was as though we had been friends for years. Whitney was always there to support via text, phone call, and in person. On the day of the birth, Whitney provided assisstance not only to me but to my husband by supporting him in comforting me. At (lots of) times, she eased my pain and was an integral part of my team which consisted of my husband and midwife. She always knew when to offer that sip of ice cold juice or to bring in a heated blanket, as well as providing us time to ourselves once the baby was born. Her duty and commitment to care is not only amazing but also so natural.

We are forever thankful for Whitney's support and recommend her to anyone who is looking for a doula.

My husband and I have said that Whitney is a part of our family and therefore will have to be present for all future babies! :)

We have nothing but great things to say about Whitney and her impact as our Doula for the birth of our first child.  She exceeded our expectations.  We were on the fence as to whether a Doula was necessary, but in hindsight I'm so happy we decided to bring her into the experience.   From our initial meetings to after the birth she was compassionate and engaged.  She is so natural at creating a comforting and approachable vibe that you almost forget that she's not a long-time friend - this really made the whole process (especially in the hospital) much less daunting as a first time father.  Whitney was also very knowledgeable and forthcoming about everything before, during, and after our child's birth.  I would not hesitate to hire her as our Doula for our next child.

Birth is full of unknowns, but having a good team helps you navigate while feeling loved and supported. When I first met with Whitney she impressed me with her non assuming approach but also her knowledge and professionalism. She listened to my concerns and had suggestions and a bag full of tools to use to help cope with labour. My husband and I appreciated her energetic personality but also her calm presence when we needed it.
Whitney is a wonderful soul to accompany you on this journey of new life.

Whitney was incredible during my wife's labor and I was so happy that she was there with us.  Without her support I'm not sure what we would have done.  My wife's labor was 48 hours long and Whitney was there with us for the whole ride which had many terrifying twists and turns.  Hiring her was one the best decisions I've ever made.

Whitney is a very friendly, cheerful, flexible, punctual doula. My husband & I felt at ease with her from the first time we met. She was very sweet towards our toddler & our baby. She was passionate about supporting us in every way she could like posting advertisements online on our behalf & giving us helpful resources. She also went beyond her role to help me out a few times after I’d given birth!

Whitney is a very bubbly, calm and happy person which are exactly the characteristics you need in a doula. She was there for me through my entire active labour till baby's birth and she gave me all the support that I needed: great massage, reminding me to breathe and drink water, praising me, ensuring that I am comfortable and had all I needed at the hospital after labour. In addition, before labour, she took the time to meet with my husband and son, research birth material for me, and visit me after birth to see how I am doing. If I would do it all again, I would pick Whitney and nobody else.

Thank you Whitney for all your support.

She's super helpful and encouraging.  We both feel that when we were in the delivery room she had a calming presence and the after care was great.  Whitney answered all of our questions and offered more information

I took the prenatal classes and read the books preparing myself for what childbirth would entail. All the preparation did little in comparison to what Whitney’s support and guidance offered me. I can honestly say I could not have done as well as I did without her by my side. Her knowledge and technique helped to make my labour a positive and truthfully rewarding experience.

My labour started early in the morning hours and progressed slowly the rest of the day. I experienced back labour and was not at all ready for this. Whitney stood (and knelt) by my side providing encouraging words and soothing massages the entire time. Really she aided me in any way I asked including running me a bath as the labour carried on into the next day and pain medications did nothing to help me sleep.

When I was ready to return to the Hospital the next morning, she drove my partner and me there. She was right by my side in the delivery room. Ready still with loving words and the willingness to assist me in any way she could. Her approach was supportive and respectful. She held my hand when I needed her to but also gave me space when I needed this. In the moment when I thought I couldn’t push anymore, she reminded me I could and her words allowed me to remain strong.

As a result, I was able to deliver a beautiful baby girl weighing in at 7.9 pounds who instantly took up all of my heart. Whitney continued to stay with me after the birth bringing those present snacks and helping me communicate with loved ones. She also visited the next day. Whitney was there for me from the beginning of labour through to the final push and afterwards. Her consistent and constant physical and emotional support made my birthing experience a successful and positive one. I am forever grateful to her and appreciative of all the love and care she showed me. I would whole-heartedly recommend her services to anyone.

The birth of my daughter was one of the most challenging and incredible experiences of my life. I had a 40 hour labour that ended in a c-section. Throughout it all, Whitney was by my side. Shortly after being discharged from the hospital, I was readmitted because of a health issue while my daughter stayed at home with her father. Whitney stayed with me during this time, kept me calm, and spoke to nurses and doctors on my behalf when I could not.

I’m so grateful for the support she provided. Whether she was bringing snacks, brightening my mood, or just keeping me company, I knew I could count on her. I was stressed out and emotional, and she was calm and empathetic. It was exactly what I needed.

I would recommend Whitney to everyone I know who is having a baby. She is caring, knows how to get stuff done and has a wonderful sense of humour. She was the best advocate I could have hoped for during this difficult time.
