Devon was my doula for the birth of my son Llewyn. I can’t imagine having gone through my birth without her. She was not only an incredibly empathetic support for me but also for my husband, and for my family.
She is attentive, prepared, kind, loving and easy to be with. I felt as if we were old friends almost instantly. She brought us treats at one of our prenatal meetings - which sounds like such a little thing, but when you’re pregnant and someone brings you beignets it’s incredible.
Devon, my husband and I laughed a lot together even during labor. I had an epidural and while I rested, we got to know each other better. It was a really special part of my labor experience that I will treasure.
I could go on about all the details of Devon’s technique and skills (which were everything we could have hoped for), but to me the most impressive thing about her is her warmth and humanity. She loves her job, and her openness makes her an amazing advocate for about-to-be-parents. She was totally understanding of the birth experience I wanted to have and went above and beyond to make sure that all went according to plan.
I’m so grateful to her, and so supremely blessed to have had her as an essential part of my son’s birth. He doesn’t know it yet, but there was an extra special person there when he showed up.
I am incredibly grateful to Devon for all her support and detailed preparations for my first birth. We met three times before she helped me through 51 hours of labor. Before the end of our consultation, I knew we would hire her. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about helping everyone have the best birthing experience possible. Over the next two meetings, we went over our birth plan in detail, and she taught us a few massages and relief holds my husband could use while we started labor at home. I was confident and excited.
Devon coached us at home and went with us to the hospital the first time. When I was sent home for not being dilated enough, we sent Devon home to rest. Once things were moving again, she met us at the hospital and helped us through the birth. She supported me and was a relief to my husband. When there was an issue with my placenta shortly after the baby was born, my husband was able to stay with the baby and Devon held my hand. She kept me calm while everything was resolved. Since I wanted my placenta encapsulated, she stayed long enough to take it and then wished us well and left us to bond with our baby.
She delivered the placenta pills three days later and visited with our baby. She returned a few weeks later to check on how I was handling everything. When I admitted that I was in therapy for post-partum depression and anxiety, she complimented me on being willing to ask for help and gushed about my husband’s unfaltering support.
At every turn, she exudes kindness and understanding. Plus, her rates are very reasonable.
My wife and I hired Devon to be the doula for our first baby, and I am very glad we did. In the weeks leading up to the due date she took care to get to know us both, help us develop a birth plan, and give us an idea of what to expect from labor and delivery. As it turned out, labor and delivery was very difficult for my wife. Labor took 51 hours total. Devon was there to help my wife manage the pain, help us decide when to go to the hospital, and after we were sent back home the first time, helped us get through the next day. During the delivery, she joined me and the nurses help my wife to push. After a very tough, but successful, delivery my wife was only able to hold the baby for a few minutes before they had to be separated so the doctor could tend to the resulting wounds and manually remove the placenta, which had been stuck to her uterine wall. At that time I was able to stay with the baby, confident that Devon would be there for my wife. After delivery, Devon collected the placenta and made pills for my wife to take in the following months. She also checked in on us in the following weeks to help monitor my wife's mood and give us some baby care advice.
The main point I want to make for anyone considering hiring Devon as a dohow, besides the fact that she's great at it, is that she was extremely helpful for both my wife and myself as a partner. She helped me help my wife without interfering with our experience together. It was very reassuring having her there as someone I could trust. In my case when my wife had to be separated from the baby after the delivery I was very happy that I knew Devon would be there supporting my wife while I supported the baby, and for that I am extremely grateful. Devon was there for both of us, and she's worth every penny.
My doula search started in my 3rd trimester, which is crazy...I know! I had done some research and spoken to a few doulaa, but I didn't feel a real connection with anyone. At 35 weeks I read a doula recommendation on FB I couldn't ignore. It was for Devon Germanovich. She sounded amazing, so I contacted her. I'm SOOO glad I did. Upon meeting her, I knew she'd be the person to help me have the birth I desired with my first. She listened to my wants and needs for this labor. She was empathetic to my fears & past pregnancy experience, which is what I loved about her. She spun my "trauma" memories into super positive tools for the future. I knew she was the support I didn't think I needed....silly me! Since I was already so far along, we didn't have much time to prepare. At our follow up meeting, she met my husband and we discussed all the options I didn't know I had for my hospital birth. This information was key!! Her itemized list prepared me to confidently advocate my wants at the hospital upon admission. I was grateful we discussed this in advance. Devon was on call from that point on. My due date came and went and no baby! Devon helped me get through this uncomfortable time with suggestions for teas, an acupuncture referral, natural labor inducing foods, false labor pains, funny texts etc. Finally at 42 weeks, my labor began. Devon helped my get contractions going with walking up&down the hospital hallways & bouncing on the yoga ball. She helped my husband give me pressure point massages. She even used aromatherapy to help me relax. My labor come on fast and very painful. She was supportive of me and my choices the entire way. When it came to pushing, her coaching is what helped me successfully deliver my baby! Devon is the best. My husband and whole family loved her! I highly recommend her! It's hard not to love & appreciate someone that helped you bring your baby into this world!
Devon is AMAZING! Moms and babies are clearly something she is extremely passionate about and it shows in her abilities as a doula. She was there for my 3rd birth and made the experience fun and relaxing (as relaxing as child birth can be ). She uses awesome massage techniques as well as aromatherapy/essential oils and basically just holding your hand and telling you to breathe, so important. She even had snacks for my hubby and was the perfect liaison between me and the nurses.
Hi there! New father here. Thought I'd share my point of view as a new dad.
Devon is amazing. From our first meeting it felt like we had known her for a lifetime. Beyond being professional and thorough she makes you feel like every decision you have made is the right one for you. She is constant support.
We had a 46 hour labor. Devon was either there or on the phone for every minute of it. Leading up to the birth she was there through texting or calls. She always had the right answer to calm us and reassure us.
As a dad-to-be you may wonder if it's necessary. ABSOLUTELY. Dad, you went to the classes. You read the books. But nothing can replace her experience. She is there to support you too. Having that extra person there in the room or at the home was the only way we were able to have the birth we wanted. She was there when no one else was. She gave me a break and allowed me to breathe. She was there to tell me, "yes that's completely normal."
This is her passion. You can feel it talking to her. We also had her encapsulate the placenta, and make art from the umbilical cord and placenta. All very worth it. All a treasure, like Devon.
I can not recommend her any higher. She's a must!
Devon was my rock throughout my pregnancy, and was there for me at every turn. Pregnancy and childbirth are such intense roller coasters, full of emotions, and Devon made sure that I was always well-informed and so cared for. She has such a nurturing and kind spirit and a pure love of the entire childbirth process. I could not imagine a human being more suited to being a doula!
As a first time mom, getting closer to my due date was nerve wracking. I would think about labor and the actual birth and start to panic. What was it going to be like? Then I would take a deep breath and remember that I have Devon. By my side. The entire time. My cheerleader and my coach and my doula. I couldn't have gotten through my labor without her. She put my mind at ease and helped me focus on my body and my baby. In those moments, I knew I would soon meet my son and she would help me accomplish that. Her calm energy, positive attitude, supportive nature and awesome sense of humor were exactly what I needed. I couldn't imagine my son being born without her. She is forever a part of our family. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
