Amy was phenomenal! When I had my son, it was a different experience because all of my family was out of town (we were in Virginia and they were in Texas). I knew I needed someone to help support me. Don't get me wrong, my husband is great, but the labor and delivery part of having a baby makes him just a little sqeemish. Amy was wonderful. She offered support. she offered comfort, she helped me to feel powerful! I am forever grateful to Amy for being there with me. It was by far the easiest birth of my 3 children, he was the biggest at 11 lbs 5 oz!!! But with Amy's help it made it very manageable! Thank you!

Amy was an absolute god-send after my daughter was born. I needed rest and was completely overwhelmed. Amy helped me with overnight care and some daytime care which allowed me to sleep but still nurse my daughter and learn new ways to comfort her. I don't think I would still be breastfeeding without Amy's help.

Amy was my doula for the birth of my first child in January. I had my baby at iNova Alexandria. When I was first pregnant I wasn't sure of how i wanted my labor and birth to go. I thought I wanted an epidural and the birth experience my friends had with their babies.
As I began reading more books and educating myself, I realized I wanted to try for a low intervention, natural birth. I decided to switch to the midwives at iNova Alexandria and look for a doula. I found Amy on doulamatch. i am incredibly grateful that I did!
Amy helped me prepare my birth plan, work through complications that came up during the pregnancy and was always there to answer any question I had. After my normal prenatal appointments, if I had any questions, I could easily ask her First before calling tbe midwives.
When labor began at 2am, I called Amy and woke my husband. It was going rather quickly but Amy helped calm my husband and me down over the phone as we gathered oir bags to head to the hospital.
The labor was intense and faster than expected. Amy was a calm, constant presence which was so incredibly helpful. She could help me cope with contractions while my husband finished the staff's questions for admission. Amy helped me focus and gave me strengrh to make it through each contraction. She even helped me advocate for myself when unneeded intervention were offered as almost mandatory.
I would recommend Amy to any mom who is looking for support during pregnancy and the birth. My husband was incredibly happy that we had a doula! He said he is now, "a doula believer". I am hoping to hire her again in A few years for baby number 2!

I hired Amy to be my doula in February 2016. After researching about birth, I decided I wanted to try and go without pain medication and interventions during labor. I found Amy through doulaMatch.
We met and I was impressed by how much she knew about birth and how willing she was to help me whether or not I decided on an epidural. I knew I wanted a natural birth but was worried about the pain.
Amy came to the hospital when I was in labor. She was fabulous. Amy helped my husband and I both feel calm. She explained the interventions that the doctor wanted to do and helped us advocate for our birth plan. My husband felt better knowing she was there to help us both.
My labor was 8 hours long and I was able to go completely natural. It was the birth I had imagined. I am thankful for Amy being there that day and all of the big and little things she did.

I hired Amy as a placenta encapsulator before I decided I wanted a birth doula. We talked on the phone and I knew I wanted to hire her as my doula too. We met and found out that she had her baby at Washington Hospital Center which is where I was having my baby. I was planning on a natural birth but was nervous that I would need an epidural. Amy met my husband and I for a prenatal visit and helped us with relaxation methods and a plan for labor. My water broke early at 38 weeks before labor began. It was 2am and she was there for us. My labor wasn't easy and was longer than I expected but she was with us the whole time. Amy helped me with position changes and focusing when it came to have my baby. My daughter was 9lbs and born in 6 pushes! Amy was with me and my husband with her birth knowledge, caring and comforting words and quiet presence. I plan on having Amy by my side again if I decide to have another baby. She was amazing. Don't hesitate to hire her! I am SO thankful I found her for the placenta services and decided to get a doula.

I wasn't sure what a doula was when I began the process of planning the birth of my first child this year. I decided to have my baby with the George Washington midwives. The midwives highly recommend laboring with the support of a birth doula. i found Amy through the Modern Doula Care collective. Once we talked on the phone, we clicked and I knew she would be the support I needed.
We met at the prenatal visit and she gave me so many tips. She helped fill in the gaps where I felt I knew about birth but I didn't know how to make things personal to me. amy helped me complete my birth plan and organize. She made my husband so comfortable and helped him understand my baby would not be born quickly in the car!
Once labor started, we stayed in contact over the phone all night. Amy was my rock. She kept me calm on track and reminded me to rest. Once labor was really going, she came to me and stayed for 9 hours! Amy also came postpartum to visit and encapsulated my placenta for me. I never had to coordinate anything. She did it all.
Amy helped in labor in so many ways I can't even remember them all. From physical support to emotional support - to reminding my husband to eat, she was amazing. My baby girl was born after 15 hours of unmedicated labor. I can honesty not put into words how helpful having a doula, especially Amy, at my birth was. The entire experience at GW with the midwifery group and Amy as my doula was incredible.
