I was nervous to welcome another person into my birth space, but the midwives I was working with informed me that it was required for first-time moms to have a Doula to ensure the best homebirth outcome. Rebecca was the first Doula that my husband and I interviewed and I immediately knew that she was the Doula we were going to work with. In our consultation, she provided all her resources and was very informative. With all the knowledge she had, she empowered us to be able to move forward and we hadn't "hired" her yet. In addition, her voice was soothing, we were able to laugh right off the bat, and I genuinely felt connected to her within minutes of our initial conversation. So we went forward with Rebecca as our Doula. Due to a particular complication, I had to transfer to a hospital setting and she was there through it whether in person or a text away (she even went to one of my appointments with me). During labor, she was present even though she had food poisoning and I didn't know until she had to tell me it got worse. I say this because her dedication/compassion toward me and my experience was evident. She had to leave but ensured that I had a backup and her backup had similar work ethics and knowledge to handle my complicated birth as well. When Rebecca was there, she always asked whether or not she can step into my space, had natural remedies to help (with nausea, for example), and gave my husband the tools he needed to help. I can honestly say that Rebecca is someone I can trust and I have so much respect for. If I get pregnant again, I'm definitely reaching out to her for that birth.
