When looking for a doula to attempt a VBA2C with my third pregnancy, I wanted to find someone very particular. It was important to me that they were a Christian, experienced in VBACs and followed evidenced-based birth. I also wanted someone who would have a calm, motherly presence yet was also bold and ready to help me advocate for myself. Joanna was absolutely all of these and more!! Even just at our consultation she was immediately a source for both comfort and knowledge. She not only made me feel heard and held but she explained the why and how behind everything - both emotionally/mentally and physically. Every meeting leading up to delivery felt like a whole lesson on birth. She answered all of my questions and even helped me unpack some of my past birth trauma. When I was needing labor to come sooner than later, Joanna was always a text away to help provide guidance and insight that empowered me to make the right decisions. She even went out of her way to come over and help me try to encourage labor to begin. When it finally came time, Joanna was calm as always and was happy to meet me where I was and encouraged whatever I felt was best for me. At the same time, she knew exactly the things that would help my situation and was a voice for me in the hospital when I quite literally couldn’t speak. With her support, I had my successful VBA2C! All the while… Joanna’s daughter, Jaida, was busy at our home with our 2 and 3 year old boys. If you don’t have family near by, having a “sibling doula” is an INCREDIBLE add-on service. The two of them as a team made my VBAC possible I could not recommend them any more!!!
