From the moment we first met with Sharon, both my husband and I knew we wanted her to be present for the birth of our first baby. She has a very calm demeanor, which was very important to us, but she also has many years of experience. Sharon also was very keen on understanding what was specifically important to us during the labor and birth. During labor, the birth and then post partum Sharon was so supportive to both my husband and I. Some specific points that I found Sharon very helpful for:
1. i definitely labored longer at home before going to the hospital. Had it just been my husband and I, we would have gone much too early. Having Sharon at home and knowing when to go was so helpful.
2. Sharon helped me with labor positions to get the process moving. I wanted to curl up in fetal position for my contractions, but she convinced us to move to the shower and move around, and therefore I do think it helped labor progress faster.
3. Having someone knowledgeable and experienced in the room when a nurse or doctor wasn't present was so comforting. She definitely knows the in/outs of the labor/delivery unit!
4. When things got tough and werent going as planned, Sharon was an excellent coach. once in the delivery room, things were not progressing as they should of, and she was right there helping me (and my husband) through it. Had she not been there, mentally I don't think I (or my husband) would have handled the situation very well.
5. Sharon was so helpful with pain management options. Again, when things weren't going as planned and the doctor offered some options, both my husband and I were exhausted by that point. She took a moment to stop and discuss pros and cons of options, to ensure we were making the right choice for us.
6. Sharon was very supportive post partum, especially helping with breastfeeding issues
I would definitely recommend Sharon!!
