I apprenticed with Kathleen 10 years ago and I know that the knowledge and hands on experience I gained in that time set the trajectory for my entire career. I attended 24 families with Kathleen from the first visit all the way through birth and postpartum. I learned practical skills in action and also learned how to read labor by watching her. I took a formal doula training from another organization while in her apprenticeship but I felt like what I got from Kathleen was what made me a great doula. I was also able to build contacts in hospitals, birth centers and the birth community by being associated with and vouched for by her. She is more knowledgeable than anyone I know on so many subjects and seeks information like she is hungry for it. She is an incredible teacher who does this because she wants to elevate doulas as a whole community. She gave me EVERYTHING I needed to be successful from templates for contracts and birth plans, to systems and structures for my client interactions. When I completed the apprenticeship it wasn't goodbye. I can always reach out to Kathleen if I am stuck and don't know what the next move is. I cannot recommend training with her enough. I strongly feel that without her guidance at the beginning I would have either failed completely or would not have been nearly as successful as I am. Doula training NEEDS hands on experience!!! It was like doing clinicals. It was vital. I would never have become the doula I am today with only that weekend workshop I took. It was a lot of good information, but it lacked the real life scenarios that gave me my ability to read labor and know how to support it. I guarantee you that if you let Kathleen be the one to give you a boost, you will shoot off for the stars!!

This is by far the very best training you will find! It's a very intensive internship for 3 months where you shadow Kathleen. You learn the medical side, the physiological side, the counseling side, and the business side... She truely sets you up for success in starting your own doula business. I learned so much more than the online training or just reading books. She also gave me many opportunities that only come with being a local birth worker for 20 years. This training changed the course of my life.
