Training offered
As a DONA-approved Birth Doula Trainer, I’ve designed this training to offer a well-rounded foundation rooted in both knowledge and connection. Participants receive comprehensive instruction in: - Introduction to Childbirth - Lactation for Birth Professionals - Optional Basics of Bereavement and Finding Your Doula Advocacy Voice (included in your fee) Whether you’re stepping into birth work for the first time or deepening your understanding, you’ll leave this training with clarity, confidence, and practical skills you can use immediately. You’ll also join a growing network of alumni, a supportive, engaged community of doulas across the country. I continue to offer mentorship and connection after your training ends, because support shouldn’t stop at certification. Flexible scheduling options are available to help you balance your training with work, parenting, or other commitments. My goal is to make the learning process accessible, thorough, and grounded in real-life birth work.
Summary of qualifications
I’ve worked in doula care, combining clinical experience with a deep understanding of how adults learn best. I’m a DONA-approved Birth Doula Trainer and Advanced Certified Doula, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, a Certified Lactation Counselor, and I hold a PhD and MPH in Public Health. I also earned a Master’s in Health Professions Education, which means I’m trained in how to teach other health professionals in ways that are clear, respectful, and practical. In every training, I draw on this blend of lived experience and formal education to create a learning space that makes sense, feels supportive, and prepares doulas for the realities of birth work. Whether you're brand new or shifting your focus, I’ll meet you where you are and help you grow with confidence and care.
Style of teaching
I approach teaching as I do birth work: grounded, respectful, and relationship-centered. Every learner brings unique strengths and questions. I aim to create a welcoming, interactive environment where students feel heard, supported, and challenged in meaningful ways. I use adult learning principles, clear structure, and real-world examples so you can connect what you're learning to what you’ll actually do as a doula. We laugh. We reflect. We practice. The goal is always to build confidence and readiness, not overwhelm. I also stay available after the training, because the transition into birth work doesn’t happen overnight. My teaching is shaped by decades of experience, but I’m always learning, too. That’s part of what makes birth work so lasting: there’s always more to grow into, and always room at the table.

I have had the opportunity to take two trainings with Robin and I am a better birthworker for it. I took my initial DONA doula training with her, in-person, in early 2020 and had a blast. I still refer back to activities she used and points she made all the time in my own work. I then learned a whole new way to absorb information and engage others when I took my Lamaze childbirth educator training with her in mid-2022 in a 6-week virtual format. What a different way to teach! And yet, it was just as engaging and enjoyable as I had expected.

In both formats, I have found Robin to be an incredibly well-spoken, engaging, and fun trainer. She makes use of multiple teaching methods to ensure that every person is able to learn in their own way. A peer mentioned recently that she is retaking her doula workshop, this time under Robin, and I was so envious. If I could take her courses all over again, I absolutely would.

Robin is incredibly knowledgable (and yet totally relatable!) and is a fantastic person to have in your corner as you grow your career. Her impact isn't over on the last day of class either; Robin has cultivated an active community space whose importance can't be overstated. I feel so glad that I have her as a mentor and partner in this realm of birth work. I HIGHLY recommend her as a trainer!

Back in 2015 when I had the inkling to become a doula, I searched doula workshops near me and came across Robin's training. That experience, and the enduring support after it, have been INVALUABLE to my career as a doula. Robin is an engaging, informative, and wise teacher. I like how her curriculum gets you thinking and dives into all manner of topics in just a few sessions! The ongoing support of Robin through her trainee community continues to be a valuable resource. Thank you for everything, Robin!

Robin is both professional and warm in her manner and teaching style. She's thorough and inviting to all her students and helps even the shiest person to open up and feel free to ask questions and deep dive into the training program.
