Julie joined our birth plan very late in the pregnancy--the doula we had hired and worked with for months got covid a few weeks before my due date, and then our doctor decided we needed an early induction, which meant our doula couldn't be there during labor. Our doula put us in touch with Julie about 4 days before my induction.
Julie absolutely exceeded expectation. We talked on the phone to get to know each other a little bit, and then texted leading up to and during the early stages of the induction. When Julie arrived at the hospital, she brought a calm and confidence that put me and my husband at ease immediately. Throughout labor she offered advice, asked questions, and made sure I advocated for myself, without any judgment around my decisions. She also left space for my husband and I to have our own moments together. It takes a special person to be able to so adeptly and comfortably insert themselves last minute into such an intimate situation.
When our daughter was born, Julie stayed with me in the labor and delivery room while my husband followed our daughter to the NICU for some minor complications, and in retrospect, it was wonderful to have someone I felt safe with stay with me during the immediate post-delivery haze while my husband was gone. Julie then came with us to the recovery room, made sure we were comfortable, helped me with my first hand-expression, and answered any residual questions we had at that time.
Julie made us feel so secure and safe and comfortable in a very vulnerable and intense time, and we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have had her be part of our birth story. While we have primarily talked with our original doula during the postpartum phase, Julie has checked in periodically to see how we're all doing, which highlights her genuine compassion and connection she feels with her clients. I would absolutely hire Julie in the future and recommend her to other expecting parents.
