As a first time mom who felt strongly about having as natural of birth as possible, I knew I wanted a doula to help advocate my wishes and support my husband and I. From our first meeting with Amanda, we both felt so comfortable and like she would be the perfect fit for us. We were so impressed with all of the types of births she's been a part if and how knowledgeable she was. We had a meeting with her about a month before I was due so we were all on the same page about our wishes, possible outcomes, decisions, etc. We felt so much more confident going into the birth after that meeting because Amanda was so thorough. When I knew I was in labor, I texted Amanda and we talked about my contraction times, etc. We called her to come to the hospital once we felt we were ready for her. During labor, Amanda helped us talk through options of getting my water broken and helped us feel comfortable with that decision. I did not like to be touched/talked to during labor, but she was there with us, suggested various pushing positions when she saw one wasn't working, held my legs as I pushed, supported my husband, and reassured me as I needed it! She was respectful of us, and super conscientious of our moms who came in the room before/after birth and blended into the background once our baby was born and let us have our time. We are so thankful for an amazing birth experience, and Amanda was an important part of that!
