Nearly 4 years ago Sonja guided my husband and I through my pregnancy and the birth of our first son. More recently, we had the pleasure and privilege of being able to have her by my side for my second son too. She was one of the first to know when I had a positive test (I believe I let her know the same day!)
Sonja provided support and encouragement every step of the way, providing information and recommendations to help create my dream plan of a water birth. She was there to offer advice when my mental health plummeted due to prenatal depression, and made sure that I had the support I needed. I had a couple of unexpected twists in my pregnancy, including nearly 2 weeks of false labour. Never once did I feel like I was bothering her by giving daily updates on my "contractions" and when it was finally go time, she was by my side in a flash.
She made my water birth experience beautiful and relaxing, with fairy lights and music and conversation. Although I had complications which led to me not continuing that route, when things changed she and my husband were a beacon of light and stability amongst the tricky situations happening around me. I felt grounded and supported and loved, even when my plan didn't go the way I expected.
Sonja is an incredible doula. She recognizes tthe importance of a birthing partners opinion, being sure to include them every step of the way. She never dismisses or downplays anything of importance to the client, and she understands the significance of what she sets out to do without bringing focus away from what matters to the family.
Thank you Sonja, it's a privilege to my family that you helped bring both my boys earthside.
