My birth experience would look incredibly different and not be as positive as it was had I not had Jackie/ the district doulas with me and my husband along the way.
TLDR: I cannot recommend the District Doulas/ Jackie enough. Giving birth in a hospital is very safe, in the end you will have a baby. BUT the difference in using Jackie/ District Doulas is the self-empowerment around your entire birth experience. You will be much more informed and prepared for birth and you will have a gentle helping hand through it all including postpartum. I am convinced, that my birth would have looked much much different and been harder/ not the birth I desired if it weren’t for Jackie & District Doulas by my side.
They offer in-person classes each month about all aspects from birth - postpartum. These classes allow you to get to know the doulas. They give you a foundation of knowledge for what is to come. My birth ended up requiring a vaacum. Had I not attended the classes, I wouldn’t have known what a vacuum looked like and that it is quite a gentle option to use, if needed, instead of a C-section.
From the beginning of labor, through to the hospital and especially postpartum the doulas/Jackie have been by my side. They were responsive when my labor started. Jackie helped us with the decision of when to head to the hospital. I am grateful to have been able to labor at home as long as I did and wouldn’t have done so without Jackie.
My in-hospital birth experience was extremely positively impacted by Jackie’s presence. She was never pushy/over inserted and was a constant helping set of hands. She helped me advocate for items on my birth plan when the hospital staff were not operating along the lines of my desired plan.
In postpartum, Jackie was incredibly helpful with her lactation consulting. I would not be successfully breastfeeding as I am now if it weren’t for her help!
