Having Laurie as a doula for our first birth was the best thing we've done. I contacted Laurie a tad late in the game but luckily she was available and able to talk to us right away. From our first meeting, I could tell right away that Laurie was very experienced, outgoing and personal. She asked great questions to learn about us but also provided insights of who she is as a doula and mom. All the meetings afterwards were fun and insightful. My birth was nothing like how I'd like it to go, but having Laurie with me at hospital (Swedish First Hill) after my water broke was so helpful. She offered suggestions to change positions when going through my contractions, massaging me to ease the pain, drawing a warm bath so I could get comfortable, and preparing pillows and warm blankets. I ended up needing an emergency C-section and I was scared, confused and overwhelmed. Laurie stayed by my side, telling me what was going on, how my baby was doing. She also was great with my husband and helped me through the panicky moments and really supported him. Long story short, I felt very grateful for her guidance and presence throughout the entire time (from first meeting to delivery to blow-your-mind-amazing postpartum massage at home and many more). We will not hesitate to ask Laurie to be our doula again should we have another baby! I highly recommend Laurie - she's a wonderful doula, mom, and human being!
