We had a great experience with Shamika as our doula. During birth, Shamika was firm but not super pushy to the hospital staff. She always asked the staff what the consequences were or other alternatives to the dr's orders were. We didn't need to ask anything ourselves and Shamika knew how to advocate for us and anticiated our concerns, even when I didn't realize that I had them. I appreciated her speaking up for us when we didn't know what to ask.
Post natally, Shamika really helped us in our breastfeeding journey. Even though our goal was to breastfeed from the get-go, it was not possible and so she made a plan for us on how to pump effectively to increase my milk supply and also feed the baby to avoid nipple confusion. And after we tried the plan but it was too overwhelming, Shamika was super supportive in adjusting the plan and doing what was best for us. We appreciated her ability to be flexible in working towards our feeding goals.
And through it all, Shamika provided us with very real advice and didn't sugarcoat us. She had a very calm and relaxed presence which help us as anxious first-time parents. Would highly recommed Shamika!
