Shamika was our doula for the birth of our first son. Going into this we were very unprepared without any prior experience. She really took the time to meet with us and walk us through the process and necessary preparation. She also took the time to learn what our vision for the birth was going to be. We were new parents so we had a lot of questions which Shamika helped answer. Shamika stayed in touch checking in continuously and sharing information that would be helpful for our preparation for the birth.
During the birth, Shamika was especially good at emotional support and pain management. Shamika had a lot of techniques to help us cope with pain and anxiety. She was always there to support us. Our labor was 29 hours long and mostly unmedicated until the very end and we couldn’t have done it without her, she made sure to stay with us providing support all the way.
As a support parent Shamika formed a team with me to help with preparation and support during the birth. This was a very long labor, and there were several points where decisions had to be made, and Shamika was always there to provide input and walk us through the options and help us talk to the midwives, nurses and doctors to understand each step of the way.
