I think every pregnant person should hire a doula, and more specifically should have a Jessica in their circle. My birth story ended up derailing from my birth plan and Jessica is a major component of why I still loved my experience. I ended up having to be medically induced and Jessica was on her way to just sit with me. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me, to have her calm and positive spirit with me before we even started any induction methods after being admitted. She sat with me as long as I needed to be okay, until we decided it was best we all got some rest before the fun began. I called her back hours later when contractions were close and she was back in the car on her way. Thanks to Jessica, she made my labor seem so fast because she kept me switching positions, she listened to me and read my body language to help my husband support me through the contractions. When it came to pushing, I just remember looking at her each time a contraction would come so she could hold my leg and help get me through. After delivery, there was a slight scare and Jessica came right up next to me and was explaining every little thing that the team of nurses and doctors were doing to help keep me calm. This is the most special part of my story that I keep reflecting back on. Every single moment she saw that I was scared, she came right beside me and talked me through it. I’m only a week postpartum and I already know that if I’m blessed with more pregnancies, I’m immediately hiring Jessica again, and you should too!
