Susannah is an amazing birth doula, the perfect fit for us and incredibly helpful in guiding us on the birth journey. This was my first pregnancy, I'm over 40 years old, so we felt I needed a professional who is not affiliated with the hospital to guide us and provide a balance perspective. Susannah has a wealth of resources, is highly responsive and supportive -- she goes the extra mile, such as hopping on a phone call when needed and doing research behind the scenes. In the weeks leading up to birth, she prepared us physically, mentally and spiritually for the transformation of birth. I did the "Body Ready Method" (she is a Certified Pro), with her coaching and guidance, and these exercises absolutely lined me up for a more efficient birth. Also, we were being pressured by the OB/Midwives to be induced at 39w due only to my age. Susannah helped us to come to a decision to wait for spontaneous labor. As it turned out, our son wasn't born until 42w2d, and after induction. She was with us at each decision milestone, and we felt confident that we were making the decisions that were right for me. At the hospital, she incidentally had delivered a few babies with the Midwife on duty, so it was a A+ birth team. I did in the end deliver vaginally, which was my first priority. Upon birth of baby, Susannah ensured our birth preferences were being respected. For example, an eager nurse swooped in to take baby's blood sugar level immediately after birth. Susannah advocated that the level be taken AFTER he latched and breastfed. He breastfeed within 45 mins of birth, and we passed the test. She visited us for a postpartum visit, providing guidance and support, as well as debriefing the whole journey of birth. We have a healthy and happy baby, are proud of ourselves and grew as a couple. Mentor, coach, guide -- all roles that Susannah played in an integrated and holistic way. She will absolutely be a part of our and our baby's lives moving forward.
