I was so hesitant to hire a doula because I really didn't want anyone at my birth besides my midwives and my husband. I really wanted the birth space to be sacred but was struggling so much because I really wanted to feel like I was doing something to prepare myself. Page was amazing in accommodating exactly what I wanted. You can tell just from the way she speaks, the softness in her tone, the thoughtful things she says, that she loves mothers and wants to help them have their best experience with their partner and baby.
She came to my house for about two hours where she talked through our birth plan, offered some advice, and showed us positions during birth to help with relaxation. I loved that she didn't try to sway any of my decisions about my birth but did offer some questions or things that I could bring up with my midwives to potentially help my birth experience be what I wanted it to be.
in my first birth I remember wishing I had gone through some sort of childbirth education because I really wanted my husband to be able to give me counter pressure and just know how best to support me. Page showed us so many different positions that gave my husband multiple ways of providing counter pressure. My favorite was lying down in a soooning position while he applied counter pressure to my low back. We ended up using that a lot during labor too. She also gave me words to use in the moment if the pressure was too soft or too firm. And although I don't think I used the exact words she said during labor, it helped so much to have that discussion with my husband before hand because in the moment it just felt so organic and natural and easy to tell him what I needed. My husband also felt so much more empowered this birth. Having a clear and defined role really helps others during the birth process and Page really helped us define those roles. I truly believe that she was instrumental in having my dream home birth. Thank you Page, we love you??
