From the moment we met Shamika, my husband and I knew she was the perfect fit for us. As first-time parents, we were filled with doubts and anxieties, especially about avoiding unnecessary interventions and achieving the unmedicated birth I’d always dreamed of. When I had to be induced at 41 weeks, I knew that dream would be much harder to achieve—but Shamika made it possible.
She truly used every tool in her toolbox to get me through. She kept me moving through contractions, lifted our spirits (even after 15 hours at the hospital!), advocated for me with the medical staff, supported my husband, applied counterpressure, and other pain-management techniques. When my labor stalled, Shamika got me to spontaneously break my water by twerking! Can you believe it?!
When I thought I couldn't go on, Shamika helped me reconnect to my inner strength and my “why”, and I will be forever grateful to her as birthing my daughter unmedicated is one of the most empowering moments of my entire life.
Shamika’s prenatal visits were imperative in helping us prepare for birth and for life with a new baby. As a lactation consultant, she also shared so many amazing resources and set us up for breastfeeding success.
Setting up postpartum visits with Shamika was also one of our best decisions - she is still the only person we’ve trusted alone with our baby and every visit with her feels like a breath of fresh air. Parenthood is full of unexpected challenges, and Shamika always helps us stay grounded and confident in making decisions that feel right for us and our family—without ever pushing or judging.
We are endlessly grateful for Shamika and all the love, support, and expertise she’s brought into our lives. We couldn’t have done this without her and anyone would be lucky to have her as their doula!
