Testimonial for Carolynn Slocum
Let me begin by saying, I cannot picture giving birth without Carolynn now!
My husband and I were expecting our first baby in August of 2024. I was planning on getting an epidural at some point and not really considering, or preparing for, an unmedicated birth. Well, our sweet little girl wanted to come quickly! I called Carolynn when my water broke at home and she started to head our way as quickly as she could. Soon after I told her to head to our house, we had to change plans and start heading for the hospital ASAP. Carolynn beat us there and thank goodness she did! She was able to help us navigate the sign in process while I was 9cm dilated and my husband was actively in fight or flight mode. When I got back to a room and was checked to see how far along I was, Carolynn looked me in the eye and told me my baby would be here very soon. Bye bye epidural plan! Carolynn quickly asked nurses for all the fixings of a mobile labor. She asked for the bed to be broke down, a birthing stool, towels, ice, you name it! There was a clear respect for Carolynn from St. Joseph's staff. There came a point where I couldn't hold myself up anymore but laying on my back hurt too much. Carolynn jumped up on the bed behind me and held me (yes held me!) up. She encouraged me to try positions that helped the baby come out much smoother, despite my protests. She knew exactly how to calm me down and keep me from panicking and she knew what I was capable of. I actually came away from giving birth feeling like I had many moments of laughter, peace, and joy if you can believe it! Not to mention, my husband felt supported and guided. Some how she also found the time to film the birth! She prayed before, during, and after our birth over. Carolynn is the best doula. I couldn't recommend her enough!!
