Amelia was our postpartum doula for our first child. Going into our time together, I wanted to be a support to my partner, but as the non-birthing partner, I wasn't quite sure what shape my role(s) would take. Amelia came in with both practical and emotional help. Practically, she gave helpful insight and feedback on breastfeeding technique, carrying our new daughter in a baby-wrap carrier, and bottle-feeding/bottle-care.
Emotionally, Amelia made it a point for both of us to share the birth story, separately. I really appreciated this, because it helped me process moments of the birth story where I was nervous, excited, uncertain, and it also fostered new dialogue between myself and my partner.
Amelia is a non-anxious presence who desires to celebrate new life and strengthen the family bonds. As the non-birthing, non-nursing partner, she helped me identify things to look for and ways to help that I otherwise wouldn't have been able to see. She also provided foundational assistance to household tasks (washing dishes, laundry, vacuuming) that allowed both my partner and I to rest, shower, take a walk, get some air, etc.
I can't recommend Amelia enough. She's someone who takes her role seriously, but she approaches it with joy and intention. She's a delight to have around, and we're so grateful she's part of our family's story. Also, she gives incredible recommendations for newborn books.
Thank you, Amelia!
