Jill wasn't my doula from the beginning of my pregnancy. We met in person during my labor because my doula was away at the time my labor started. Jill came when I already had my epidural and was upset about not being able to move during my labor which could potentially lead to a c section I feared so much. She assured me that we can succeed in getting a successful vaginal delivery despite my back labor and epidural. When she came, she immediately decorated the room with Christmasy lights and stars and it significantly helped me because Christmas spirit was helping to release my oxytocin. She was always around and extra attentive when my husband was away. During the entire process when I had to make hard choices, she helped me understand why I shouldn’t be scared and why I should trust my body. She was confident I would succeed. Something I liked about her is her ability to make things seem easier and natural, which I as an overthinker really appreciated. I felt taken care of and valued, almost like having a nanny, so I let myself be the baby and release some of the tension of overthinking. My husband liked how she helped him during labor and pushing stages by providing relaxation tools and including him during the pushing exercises. Despite my long labor (1.5 days), pushing felt great and baby came out pretty fast, likely because our manipulations during labor helped her to get into a favorable position.
