Being our second pregnancy we were debating whether or not we wanted to add a doula to our birth team. We had our first child in Vancouver so we would be bringing on a new doula if we decided that was right for us. After meeting with Renee and unpacking what worked and didn’t work for us the first time around, we knew we wanted to work with her.
Renee was an amazing resource for us as we learned about home birth and the hospital processes in Victoria. She is extremely knowledgeable and we could see why all of our midwives had recommended her. Renee’s ability to provide just the right about if information in an unbiased way helped us prepare and get excited for labour and delivery.
During labour, Renée was a critical part of my support system. Her calm and confident energy was so comforting during my birth experience. Having a support person who has seen it all and can be there for the birthing person and their partner is such a gift. Renee was available and communicating throughout my early labour, letting me know when it was time for her and the midwife to be there in person - right through all the twists and turns.
While my birthing experience had some unexpected turns, Renee’s presence kept myself and my husband grounded and calm. Having a doula - and more specifically Renée - involved in this birth experience was absolutely essential. We are so grateful for the care and support she provided as a key part of our birth team.
