Alaska is worth her weight in gold! Working with her as our doula was the single best decision my husband and I made with both of our births.
We first started working with Alaska in 2022 with the birth of our first daughter. I was anxious about the labor and birthing process and Alaska provided abundant resources to help us prepare. I ended up being induced, which wasn't what I hoped for, and Alaska was the staunchest imaginable advocate for me as I navigated a murky situation in which I felt decisions were being made outside my consent by the medical system. She helped me understand what questions to ask, where I could stand up for myself, how to prepare for induction, and helped me power through the pitocin as long as possible which led to the best induction I could have hoped for.
When I got pregnant again in 2024 working with Alaska was a no brainer. This birth was very different in that I went into labor spontaneously. Alaska was super responsive the entire week before the birth, helping me understand how I could naturally speed the process along and avoid induction. When my water broke, Alaska gave me a clear game plan to get labor going so that I could be in as active a state of labor as possible when I got to the hospital. When the time was right to go to the hospital, she came with us in the car - providing counter pressure and holding my barf bag (eeks!) the whole way. Mission accomplished - I was 10cm dilated when I got to the hospital and had a smooth delivery. Without Alaska I would not have been able to achieve the non medicated birth I hoped for.
Alaska is highly knowledgeable, empathic, and clear headed. She is a commanding advocate when you need her to be. I feel so lucky to have had her by my side during some of my biggest / most transformative life moments.
