Alaska was our guide, advocate, teacher, and partner during the pregnancy and birth of our first child. We hired a doula to help us understand and experience both the physiological and medical processes of birth, since neither of us had any experience or family members nearby to support us. Alaska exceeded our expectations in both. During pregnancy, her tutorials, meetings, resources and guides helped us understand what would happen during labor and delivery. We changed from an OB to a Midwifery during the pregnancy with the coaching provided by Alaska. It was absolutely one of the most important decisions we made during the pregnancy.
Alaska also walked us through every preference that could come up during our hospital birth, and when we were in the delivery room she helped us remember and advocate for each one. During pushing, Alaska held my hand and counted every breath for me for literally hours. This act alone helped get us through a long and sometimes intense delivery. In the days after delivering our baby, Alaska was an attentive counselor during the first challenging and frustrating days of breastfeeding.
I would not only absolutely work with Alaska again but I also highly recommend her if you want a doula who is educated, experienced, and assertive in the delivery room.
