Sarah was the grounding force that helped us through the birth of our first child. As we navigated pregnancy and the thoughts of parenthood for the first time, she was always helpfully present and thoughtful in the advice she offered.
We had lofty birth preferences, which Sarah wholeheartedly supported and validated as we drafted and implemented them. She not only gave guidance and vocabulary to the "unknowns" that were ahead of us, but also fiercely defended our wishes prior to and during labor and delivery.
On the big day, once Sarah arrived at our house in preparation for our ride to the hospital, a sense of confidence, calm, and strength washed over me and my husband. We felt secure and prepared in our decisions for the day, and knew Sarah would be the extra voice in the room to ensure an ideal birth when we needed it. Her constant affirmations and attention to the details in the room kept me present and focused, and I can't imagine the day without her there.
