Testimonial for Emerald Doulas
We used Emerald Doulas (specifically Melanie and Delmar) for the birth of our second child, but wish we had them for our first, too! With a toddler taking a lot of our attention, their text message check-ins and quick, knowledgeable and encouraging responses to questions were invaluable during pregnancy. At the birth, Melanie contributed to our casual but calming environment, coaching my husband in ways to provide support as well as providing good options for comfort and helping with progression with each stage of birth. She also helped provide physical supports and helped us achieve the type of birth we hoped for. She stayed with us until we moved to the mom/baby wing, providing support in those first few hours as well. (As a side note, most of the nurses at Duke Regional seemed to know her and were excited to have her there supporting our birth). I’d describe both doulas as compassionate, knowledgeable, non-judgmental, calm, full of heart, and passionate about their work.
Postpartum, the follow up text check-ins were supportive and a good reminder of ensuring I was remembering to eat and drink enough as a new parent of 2 and answering questions about my specific postpartum recovery. We have continued to participate the community they create through attending the New Parent hangouts at their Durham Office. We cannot recommend them enough - worth reaching out to talk to them if you even remotely considering their services.
