Marcia Mattern was my choice of doula before I was even engaged. I knew that when the time came for me to birth my first child, she would be the one assisting me and I have NO regrets! She assisted me prior to the birth to emotionally prepare and checked me over to assure me that I wouldn't have any issues breastfeeding. Before the birth, she took time to check in on me, despite having to call in from a funeral. She drove over to assist in early labor at my house with counterpressure, affirming me I was doing great and helping us to make the call on when to start heading for the birth center.
I wanted an unmedicated vaginal birth and I got just that with Marcia's help. Even though my son was born posterior, she assisted the midwives in shifting me to different positions and helping me breathe through 4 hours of active pushing and bac labor. When she had a free moment, she took tasteful pictures of my birth journey and was the one to encourage me "I think you can break the water yourself during this next contraction. The baby is RIGHT there!" After showering her (joyfully laughing!) with Kolbe's water, my little son was born not 15 minutes later.
With Marcia's assistance, I got the birth I wanted and felt empowered! I couldn't recommend her any more highly - she brings a strong, calming, and experienced presence to any birthroom!
