Shannon was my doula for my first child, and thanks to her calm support, and her familiarity with the process and all of the unfamiliar details, my unmedicated birth was everything I had hoped. We communicated well when labor started and I felt confident laboring at home thanks to her advice. At the hospital, because she was by my side, I felt that I was better able to advocate for myself. I felt comforted that she was there explaining what was happening, as the nurses, etc. weren't there just for me, but she was. My husband needed her support too, and was better able to be my birth partner and execute on what he needed to do because of Shannon's constant support and steady presence.
