When I set out to plan my natural birth, so many people in the community told me to find a doula. I had a midwife and wasn't sure how much I really needed the doula as well. I have never been so happy that I found Kate. She spoke so much truth over me during a very long (43 hours) labor encouraging me and helping me to process the many things that seem to surface during labor. She was there for every contraction with both words and movements for comfort, keeping me focused on the goal of a healthy baby. I honestly don't think I could have made it through if she hadn't constantly recentered my thinking and overall mindset as I battled fear, exhaustion, doubt, pain to name a few. Even when things didn't go as planned, she was calm, reminding me that changes in the plan aren't failures. She is the reason I was able to stick with the natural birth all the way to the end.
But even after all of that, what I'll always remember is the moment after my daughter was born when our eyes met and they were both filled with tears- a bonding of souls through the hardest and then most beautiful moments of my life. It was an honor to have her there. As far as it is within my control, I will never give birth without Kate again.
