I am incredibly grateful for Shanita’s support as my doula; choosing her was one of the best decisions I made during my pregnancy journey. I had a lot of fear and anxiety surrounding birth, but she eased my mind by educating me not only about the birthing process but also about lactation and postpartum care. She was always available and checked in regularly, which was such a gift since I often forgot to check in with myself or take the time to assess my own needs. As a first-time mom, everything was new to me, so having access to her during early labor was incredibly reassuring. Shanita gave me the confidence I needed to make informed decisions once I arrived at the hospital. During active labor, she helped me get into different positions to promote dilation and with her background as a nurse, empowered me to make decisions at each stage of labor. Even though my birth plan didn’t unfold exactly as expected due to unforeseen complications, the support and knowledge she provided about c-sections helped me accept the situation with more peace. I always thought birth would be the hardest part, but postpartum anxiety proved just as challenging and unexpected. Shanita was invaluable during this period by helping me manage my anxiety and grief over the birth experience and guiding me through postpartum recovery. She was also a tremendous help with breastfeeding. Without her expertise on latching and pumping, I don't think I would have successfully breastfed. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum all have their beautiful moments, but they also come with challenges. I am beyond thankful that I had a knowledgeable, kind, realistic, and patient doula like Shanita to guide me through each stage.
