As a first time mom, I knew that there was a lot I did not know and I was overwhelmed with the information presented to me and the choices I needed to make. Despite having nursing background, I knew nothing about childbirth and pregnancy and I knew that I wanted someone on my side who could help educate me and advocate for me - as a woman of color navigating the healthcare system, this was doubly important for me. Upon looking for a doula I knew that Shanita was exactly what I was looking for. From the moment we connected Shanita was extremely communicative, involved and proactive in providing me with resources. She was a huge source of comfort and support and despite things not going exactly to plan with my birthing experience, Shanita helped me prepare for multiple possibilities. After I gave birth Shanita continue to check in with me and provide in-person support and assistance with my breastfeeding journey and supported me in making the best decisions for me and my family. Overall, I am so glad that we chose to have Shanita be a part of our pregnancy, birthing and breastfeeding journeys and would wholeheartedly recommend her.
