1. Her knowledge + experience with birth. This lady was a midwife for years in South Africa back in the day! And now has been a doula for years + years. She knows what the heck she's doing. ;)
2. Her expertise in exercise physiology. She has been a personal trainer with a focus in pre/postnatal for decades + knows exactly the positions you need to be in to get baby moving down the birth canal + speeding labor along. She’ll tell you how to breathe + move your body depending on what's going on with baby's positioning + your progress in labor.
3. Her calm presence + kind nature. The moment I met Emily, I felt like I'd known her all my life. I run anxious, + that's amplified during pregnancy + labor/delivery of course. Emily keeps me cool + calm as a cucumber. She knows just what to say and her confidence in her capabilities + in YOUR capabilities will have you believing in yourself that you CAN do this.
4. She respects all of your wishes for your birth. She's actively on her feet giving you counter pressure on your hips for all 22 hours of labor (yes, I'm one of the lucky moms who has super long labors??). She doesn't stop for a minute. She stays in the zone, never ever makes you feel rushed. And everyone at the hospitals loves + respects her which is a bonus because it usually can mean less interventions/less interruptions.
I could truly go on + on all day.... If you're wondering for a second if Emily is worth it, the answer is a resounding yes. We were extremely tight on money this last pregnancy, but I told my husband if there was one thing I'd find a way to pay for it was going to be having Emily as our doula. (Oh, and after our amazing birth experience, my husband is equally as amazed with Emily as I am!)
