With having prior traumatic ER experience, hiring a doula for my birth was a nonegotiable for me. That being said, I felt overwhelmed with the task of finding a doula who would share such an intimate and sacred moment in my husband's and my life. After doing a lot of research, I am forever grateful that I found Evana. Evana takes the time to really listen to you, to see you, and has the gift of an ability to genuinely get to know you in a short amount of time. She is completely open-minded, and doesn't try to push an agenda. And Evana has such immense experience, which she was confident in applying to my birth. When I was first admitted to the hospital, she advised (via phone) against the doctor's initial suggestion to break my water at 2 cm. Later on the doctor agreed that it was the right call to start the pitocin instead, as Evana had advised. Thank you, Evana! When my water broke later at 3am, Evana jumped in the car and got to the hospital. She constantly had me changing positions which helped to progress the labor and ease the pain. When I felt nervous, Evana would have me talk through each thing that I was nervous about and she would address each one head on. She supported my initial decision to deny an epidural, and supported me when I changed my mind and wanted one. When the doctor made fast decisions (like switching to an internal monitor), Evana made sure to explain everything to me even when the doctor wouldn't (as she understood that I am someone who wants all information available). I vividly remember several moments during birth where Evana was holding my one hand, and my husband was holding my other, and I felt so cared for and protected. Evana was also so supportive to my husband, who had initially been very skeptical of hiring a doula but was ultimately so grateful for having Evana with us. She had us laughing and playing music and just really enjoying moments during labor when we could. Do yourself a favor and hire Evana. She is incredible.
