I had the pleasure of working with Joann through my first pregnancy. I had planned a home birth and Joann was very personable and knowledgeable with every step of the process, from guiding us about the logistics of a home birth to preparing us for the steps of labour and pain management options. The books she recommended (hypnobirthing) changed my mindset and perspective on giving birth. It gave me the confidence and empowered me to believe in and trust in my body. Unfortunately, my water broke before I was full term which derailed the home birth plan but Joann was readily available for my husband and I when the sudden changes happened. She was a phonemonal moral support and coach for us when we were nervous, afraid and uncertain with the unexpected hospital birth. Joann was responsive to all my husband’s texts (2-3:30am!) when I was in induced labour at the hospital and was able to guide and provide support for us when we were unsure of the decisions to make. She reminded us our wishes and values based on our birth plan. Joann knew I wanted her to be by my side during my delivery so she made her best effort to arrive at the hospital and just in time for my baby’s arrival, even though she was occupied with another client, since my due date was supposed to be a month away… Despite the fact that it ended up to be a hospital birth, I felt I was in control of my birth and brought my baby girl into this world the way I want it. I can’t thank Joann for her support and would highly recommend her as your doula! I definitely hope to use Joann again for my next birth and hopefully it will be a successful home birth!
