I had no idea how much support Doulas of Jacksonville would give throughout my entire pregnancy and birthing time. Early in my pregnancy, Christin took the time to chat with me about what I wanted for my birth and how she could help make that happen. I then connected with Doula Summer. Summer was the ultimate sounding board for me during my pregnancy, listening to my frustrations with my OB and helping me work through conflicting opinions about where I should give birth. She offered advice and evidence-based research to help me come to the best decision for me. I’m forever grateful to her for encouraging me to switch care providers and giving me the confidence to choose to have my baby in a birthing center, despite what my friends and family were telling me. Summer was there to support not only me but my husband as well. She walked us through what we could expect during childbirth and even took the time to attend our Hypnobabies “birth rehearsal” so she could better understand how I had prepared for my birthing time. On my baby’s birthday, Summer arrived to our house and offered guidance to my husband on how he could best help me and gave me amazing suggestions for comfort (omg- the shower!!!). She then accompanied us to the birth center and stayed vigilant while I pushed for a longgg time, working with the midwife to offer new positions, bites of honey for energy, and support to my husband. When baby was finally on their way out, the midwife asked me to get in a lunge position. I felt I had no more strength left within me, but Summer worked quickly to grab my leg and position me to assist my baby with shoulder dystocia. Without her, the birth of my son may have looked very different, and I don’t think I would have had the amazing birthing experience that I did. I cannot recommend Summer enough!
