We interviewed a handful of doulas, but it was Brooke's personable nature that sealed the deal for us; as soon as we got off the call I turned to my husband and said she was the one!
We started our journey together at about 26 weeks & carried through 3 weeks postpartum utilizing her services for before, during, & after birth care. Leading up to full term, Brooke helped us write out our birth preferences, checked in with us frequently to see how things were progressing, & was a sounding board when we received any information or action items from our health provider.
Baby ended up being very late (41 weeks 4 days) and Brooke was at our side talking us through a stalled-out induction that ended as an unplanned c-section (sayanora birth preferences lol). She spoke with the hospital staff on our behalf when needed, took photos throughout the process, and kept all our birth notes. She would meet us emotionally however needed - with humor, empathy, & kindness. She even memorialized baby's umbilical cord in resin as a keepsake.
Once baby was at home, Brooke would come over 4x/week; it was the best thing we did for ourselves as first-time parents. She helped us seamlessly transition into this new stage of our lives by answering all our ridiculous questions, telling us when we were doing a great job, and helping around the house. We did a lot of research before having our baby, but the hands-on assistance & advice we received from Brooke was invaluable. We may have hired her as a doula but she became an extension of our family and a friend we'll keep in touch with moving forward.
