Words cannot describe how valuable having Rachel Ogea as part of your birth team is! We started working with her early on and took her Evidence Based Birth classes as well as Spinning Babies. These were so informative and empowering and allowed us to get to know Rachel better. Rachel supported us so well every step of the way. I opted to receive all my care and deliver at a birth center to try and avoid all unnecessary interventions. Rachel supported my decisions and provided insight without trying to sway me one way or the other. Even though I was dead set on my plan, she sat down with me and helped me create birth plans for my ideal birth center birth, as well as alternate plans for a vaginal hospital delivery and c/section delivery. At first, I was resistant and only wanted to focus on my ideal birth. However, she helped me work through and accept these less than ideal situations while keeping the focus on the safety of me and my baby and how to navigate these transfers if they were to occur. Fast forward to my birthing process, Rachel supported me through a 76 hour labor process that ultimately ended up in an emergency c/section due to an incredibly rare complication. Words can never express how much her support helped me get through one of the hardest physical, mental, and emotional feats I will probably ever endure and when it became clear I was not a run of the mill case that could safely deliver in a birthing center, I felt the most prepared I could to transfer to the hospital and make the safest decision for my baby and I now that interventions had become necessary. Rachel labored at home with me, at the birthing center, and at the hospital up until I was taken to the OR for surgery. Having her as a constant throughout these different situations really helped ease anxiety as we went from plan A, to B, to C. I would use, and hope to use, Rachel again as a doula in the future, and think you should too!
