Alyx was the perfect doula for my husband and I. We felt comfortable with her right away. Since I had never experienced birth before I was looking for someone who was knowledgeable, reliable, kind, respectful, and honest. Alyx has all of these qualities.
My goals for this birth was to have an unmedicated water birth at a birthing center. One of my visions was to have enough space for my husband and I to experience and work through labor together, just the two of us.
When I searched for doulas near me I found Alyx. After visiting her Earthside Traditions website and reading the “About Me” section I knew that she was the perfect doula for my birth.
We met with Alyx multiple times during my pregnancy. I asked Alyx so many questions regarding childbirth and she provided many resources to help prepare me for my labor and delivery. She answered all of my questions and helped me feel confident in preparing for birth.
For my first birth I had an unusual contraction pattern. My contractions started off 1 1/2 minutes apart and lasted this same pattern for 9 hours until the baby was born. Since I had this unusual pattern in my contractions my midwife didn’t believe that I was in labor. I called Alyx and based on what she had heard during the phone call she knew that I was in labor. Alyx used her experience and knowledge to help reassure me that I was actually in labor. She informed my husband and I to call the midwife back and let her know that we are coming into the birth center. I am really thankful that I hired Alyx because I believe that she helped me have a positive birth experience. She advocated for us through our whole labor. Alyx provided enough space for my husband and I to work together during labor. When she felt like I needed extra help she provided assistance. I was able to accomplish a natural waterbirth and I believe that she played a huge part in making that happen.
