We are so glad & grateful that we had the chance to work with Allie as our birth doula. She came recommended by a friend of a friend who had used her as a postpartum doula. Allie did four sessions with us prior to the birth to help us prepare for delivery, postpartum recovery, and infant feeding, which were immensely helpful and confidence-building. We really appreciated the personalized attention and the chance to get to ask the questions that were important to us. During our homebirth, Allie was a calm and steady presence, and when we had to unexpectedly transfer to the hospital due to medical complications, she jumped right into action with anything that needed doing. I think the cherry on top was Allie's visit with us postpartum, when she brought us some nurturing food and gave us some really helpful tips about using the Haakaa, using the wrap carrier, and infant sleep that helped us with some immediate needs and challenges that we had in our daughter's first week of life.
What I appreciated throughout working with Allie was that she brought a great depth of knowledge, but also a sense of humor and lightheartedness that I think we really needed. Making and bringing a new person in the world is stressful and difficult and immensely emotional, but having someone who could make us smile and laugh and not take ourselves too seriously was really crucial. We were on the fence about hiring a doula at all, but we were really glad that we did and that Allie was our person!
