After our initial Zoom consultation with Shamika, my husband and I knew she was the doula for us. She provided us with just the right amount of information to be thorough and address our questions while ensuring we were not overwhelmed. She also took a keen interest in my medical history and went above and beyond to make sure she would be able to help me with my unique needs for birth and breastfeeding.
The birth was difficult as I had preeclampsia and was put on magnesium, so I was a bit out of it before and during the labor. Shamika was absolutely amazing. She supported us so well and kept my wishes in mind, which I had trouble communicating to providers at times due to the medication. She made sure we got the best care and was a constant advocate while we were in the hospital.
Shamika also provided us with amazing hands-on help at home when we were first learning how to take care of our little guy, and eased our new parent stress with her warmth, humor, and calming presence. When we felt overwhelmed, sending her a text always reassured us as she gave helpful advice to ease our worries and address our issues.
We could not have gotten through this without her and would recommend her to anyone! My OBGYN was also really impressed with her during the labor. If you are lucky enough to have Shamika as your doula, your new family will be very blessed.
