Choosing Alaska to be our doula was one of the best decisions we made in our pregnancy. Her wealth of knowledge is astounding. The education she provides on lactation and birth and preparation for birth from her online video collection and the occasional online meetings with current clients was invaluable. I felt so prepared to go into birth and felt like I knew what to expect in all scenarios. I had to have a scheduled C-section which I was really upset about and Alaska met up with me in person a couple months in advance to be there in support and listen and provide a fresh perspective. She never tried fo sugarcoat things- she acknowledged it wasn't what I wanted and then gave me resources to make it more in alignment with the type of birth I envisioned. While I was in the hospital after surgery she was available for me 24/7 to provide breastfeeding/lactation support. I think Alaska is a huge reason why I've been able to exclusively breastfeed. Since she wasn't able to be at the birth she came over to my home twice to cook nutritious meals for me and to provide support in whatever way I needed. She held the space for me when I was in my most vulnerable state. She's down to earth, realistic, funny, wise, and a powerhouse. My only regret is I didn't get to have a labor in which she could be a part of but I know she would have been a major asset. Anyone would be so lucky to have an Alaska as part of their journey.
